I have $1K in QF vouchers which could cover the trip in Y, but for an extra $1500, PE is an attractive offer particully given I require 200scs before 31May with little travel until then.

I see that the dreaded "e" word has been used. At least Qantas are enhancing themselves this time!

+1 for the sad demise of the SFO option, especially as this year SFO is my major US destination. Still, I ain't never been to Texas; how bad can it be?

I go to Orlando on alternate years. I would much rather transit DFW than LAX (if not doing an RTW via London). The main downer is that the 388 is not doing the new route.

According to the Qantas Source the service will be operated by ERs with the F cabin for premium J pax while the last two rows of J will be for premium PE customers, PE 36-39 will be sold as Y for Cl and WPs.

Inventory is now loaded for JASAs, including the domestic leg which would be novel in a F seat for 16K + cash.

I’d love to hear of someone booking a JASA and getting an F seat for the flight to SYD… I see it comes with breakfast, which sounds very enticing!

I’d be so very tempted if I needed the SC’s.

No mention the cutting of historical ties - SFO was QF's first mainland US port and for many years was the major west coast gateway for almost all airlines' flights to this side of the Pacific before LA grew.

I took the plunge - 34K QFF points and 125 SC's for for $1030 (inc. CC Fine). (MEL-xSYD-DFW-xBNE-MEL)

Was allocated PE seating in WHY.

SFO has been "enhanced".

+1 to contemplating a JASA on the 744 BNE-SYD!

Soo tempted. Inaugural flight on 15 June. QF008. Amost worth the OMG departure.

$2 more expensive than the domestic fares.

It may be good for a leisure trip but its hard to see it being useful for business, at certain times of the year we get UA popping in to top up, I would expect in this case should the same conditions exist on the day QF is operating it will require a tech stop in NAN or similar. Its still nice to have a International Option that is not a OMG departure like QF20 and on decent equipment unlike the current 767s which are doing Qf20 again temporarily.

Great news :)

Great lead in fares!

It will take Jetstar 5 seconds to jump into SFO, its just not a premium port for QF. Can an A330 make it??

Ironically, I was contemplating QF073 SYD/SFO on 16 June. QF008 would have been perfect to maximise FLounging time.

I'm going to do this.

I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Dallas. My very first project in high school was on JFK. He died many years before I was born but I have wanted to visit Dallas ever since.

It's a bit exxy at $20k but at least I feel safer than flying with a US airline.

***Edit*** That was actually in F via LAX. It's only $10K J on the direct flights so I'm going to book for the first flight!!

Yes I'll be looking out for those too! :)

EDIT: Starclass intro offers should JQ leap into SFO

From their Facebook post:

Hi all, the aircraft operating the four return flights to DFW each week will be a Boeing 747. While direct Sydney-San Francisco (SFO) services will be discontinued on 14 May 2011, SFO will remain part of Qantas' network as a codeshare destination. For more information please see About Qantas - Media Room - Media Releases

Hope Qantas will introduce F Lounge in DFW.

I wonder if there will be a partly QF funded F lounge being opened in DFW?

I know premium flyers may like a First Class lounge in DFW, but if you are Qantas flying a 747 there with three classes, Economy, Premium Economy, and Business; why would you invest in a First Class lounge:?:

I agree with ric_melb, why put in/partly fund a sole F Lounge or a joint F Lounge, when you don't offer that service, would be an expensive exercise to please WP's and CL's. Have we become that accustomed to them (even though they are only available in 2.5 (BNE being the half...lol) ports here in Australia) ???
However, what is strange (from reports on this thread); DFW being one of AA's major hubs yet without a Flagship Lounge????

For those of us who sit in the back, QF have some great return fares for the new route. Sample: 16May (out) and 13Jun (return) prices at $998 AI either from SYD or MEL. These fares not yet showing on their 'International Specials' page but come up when entering booking dates. 18,897 FFP from MEL. Unfortunately, all my trips are to SFO to visit family.

Fantastic opening specials :)

Oh, and welcome back Red Roo, it's been a while. Still no reply/"dialogue" to the thread that you started????

Would this be QF's longest route now?

Yes, both in terms of time and distance.

A few have noted the planned block times for the new services.

QF7 SYD-DFW 15:25, QF8 DFW-BNE 16:00, then a standard 1:35 blocktime on BNE-SYD.

To compare, QF93 MEL-LAX is scheduled at 14:10, whilst QF94 LAX-MEL is currently 15:20 on the 747.

Will QF load additional codeshare options into the GDS to cities such as YYZ based on QF times around DFW?

As part of this announcement, we are adding several new codeshare destinations across AA's network, both ex LAX and ex DFW.

Specifically, the new destinations ex DFW are:

  • CLE – Cleveland
  • DCA - Washington DC / Reagan National
  • LGA - La Guardia, New York
  • MCI - Kansas City
  • SAT - San Antonio
  • CUN – Cancun
  • GDL – Guadalajara
  • MEX - Mexico City
This will take our total of codeshare destinations ex DFW to 28. Beyond this list, AA certainly has a very strong network offering at DFW, providing a broad range of connectivity options for the new service.

In relation to other destinations and routes, we are working on further opportunities to grow our relationship with AA, so watch this space.

Good news for east coast. Sad to see SFO go but I have another trip on QF73 in April.

East coast now 1stop quicker, but that will also reduce SC's to East coast on first look won't it?
