What feathers are you seeing being ruffled?

The image is the current offering. Other than on ausbt i havent seen it anywhere else. Qf have yet to officially announce it from the looks of it. Probably an email in the next few days as a 30 notice of change.

The article talks about increased business counters to cater for demand and less PE counters.

I think its great and perfectly timed. Can't wait

Great for silver, maybe not so great for gold/business :)

I feel like this was how it previously was, but maybe I'm getting confused with QP counters of the past. Certainly, when NGCI came in a number of things changed and they've slowly changed back it seems.

That would seem to fit with their new A330 fleet refurb not introducing any PE...

I remember when I first qualified for LTS thinking I'll never have to use economy checkin on QF again. I thought it was business class counters back then (10 years ago? IIRC). Glad to see the benefit returning.

Yes I recall that QP have business class check in when flying international.

Consider my feathers ruffled!

I pay top dollar to fly business class on domestic and international QF and it's always a disappointment to enter the business lounge and find it chock full of people. Now I have to queue up with them too? Ugh. As a recently-demoted WP, I've done my fair share of Flounging, but when there, I couldn't help thinking that I would be pretty annoyed to have paid $20k or whatever for a first class ticket and have to share the Flounge with the likes of me!

Personally I think that if QF wants to let non-business people into business checkin and lounges, don't call them business checkin lounges! Call them something else! The same goes for the Flounge. It's not an Flounge if they let people like me in!

I can see why QF does it - it's a form of upgrade that costs them very little, but unfortunately it pushes the cost onto other customers in the form of queue times and crowding in the lounge. This means that the QF Int J experience is not consistent: one minute you are in a lounge where you are expected to scoop out your own runny scrambled eggs from a big bowl then find a seat in a zoo of people, then the next minute you are in the aircraft where they are serving you in a hushed environment with white linen tablecloths. I have more personal space on the aircraft than on the ground.

If I were running the show (flying spaghetti monster forbid!), I'd align the checkin and lounges to the class of travel, so that you get the same standard of service in the air and on the ground. I'd reward WPs etc with the occasional complete upgrade (i.e. upgraded checkin, lounge and flight) rather than a continuous half-upgrade (upgraded checkin and lounge, but not flight) that impacts other passengers.

Having said that, if QF is silly enough to let me into the Flounge, I'm gonna go!

But not having those benefits is about loyalty and rewarding those who fly qf more. If you put all the money in wouldn't you want something in return otherwise why have these programs.

Yeah, I get the loyalty argument. That's why I said I'd still offer loyalty benefits, but just in a different form. Anyway, it's hypothetical because I'm not running the show. Then again, I don't think anyone is!

A fine thing to do if the benefits for Gold, Plat and Plat 1 are increased in some form. But no evidence of that, so not a sensible move in my view. Priority boarding and check-in already hit and miss. This just makes it worse.

My guess is that QF have done the numbers and its not just about loyalty benefits. They know how many PS pax are going through the international terminals, they probably see the queues at the Y counters, and know how many are using the Y+ counters, and are spreading checkin pax to make things smoother. Just a thought.

Not sure what you mean.
They do currently have those checkin benefits

Basically not every alliance member has Y+ so isn't that why it has to be J?

That was similar to my thought, that really, if they got rid of Y+ counters they could add extra staff to Business and make it more streamlined/efficient. I'd be getting rid of Y+ check-in entirely and perhaps re-brand Business check-in as Premium Check-in. I don't ever recall much of a queue with J counters when I've flown - Y for most people, Premium for Silver/Gold FFers/Y+/J ticket holders and keep the F check-in extra special (not that I found it anything amazing the few times I've used it).

Don't forget that QC members also get a dedicated service desk for international flights. Generally they are bundled with Y+ checkin. I suspect that if there is no QC checkin counter they get J don't they or do they just miss out? Web doesn't say what happens just that most ports have something
