FWIW, this mail arrived from QF Singapore. Haven't really checked the offer out in any detail. When I went to the link provided to try a dummy booking, it had no field in which to fill in a return date, then alleged I was trying to return before I had departed. :? Prices quoted are excluding taxes/surcharges.

The main thing to remember with fares ex-SIN is that Qantas does not normally include all the additional charges, so while SIN-PER-SIN might say $358, you'll probably find it is over $600. (which is still a lot less than PER-SIN-PER)

Alright, I'll rephrase my answer:

While it is cheaper than ex-oz, it is not as cheap as the headline price would have you believe.

Remember if you want to be alerted to these specials ex. Singapore, simply subscribe to their newsletter on the QF Singapore site.

Now they include two free flights in OZ, so for $828 SGD you could go:
Singapore to Melbourne
Melbourne to Adelaide
Adelaide to Perth
Perth to Singapore

Not bad for $700 Australian

I was told in order to buy these airfares you need to have a Singapore mailing address.

Is that true ?

I rang up a few months ago. I wanted to use FF points to go DRW to SIN and then just buy a ticket to go from SIN to LHR. It was going to cost me about $1,000 - which is a lot cheaper than a fare from Australia (especially being Qantas).

The guy I talked to said the only requirement was you have to start and finish the journey in Singapore to book the ticket.

Surprisingly he also said I could have my baggage checked from DRW all the way to LHR even if I had two seperate bookings.

I've changed my mind now that DRW - SIN fares are so cheap, I'm not going to waste points.

Agree with justinbrett, there is no such rule as needing a SIN-based address. You just need to either have a valid SIN Identity Card, or have tickets showing you leaving SIN within the stay period (I think it's 3 months...haven't checked my Passport recently)

I have booked tickets ex-SIN (it helps when I have a friends working in SIN QF Reservations). She has no trouble booking tickets for me. Did one in September last year for my M-i-L...SIN/LHR/SIN (nested together with an Australian issued BNE/SYD/SIN/SYD/BNE).

it was the Qatnas call centre person that told me I needed a Singapore address to book online via Qantas wesbite.

I want to book SIN - PER return ticket and now think I can.

Thanks :D

You could do this anyway as I had already looked at all the routing combinations before. When you looked at the fine details SIN-SYD via BNE or MEL including taxes was ~SGD$1060 peak times. The taxes are not included in front page which could amount to ~SGD$300 which bumps airfare higher.

Don't have my spreadsheet with me but I may need to revisit the routings again. The 2 free flights could make a lot of difference as you can get SIN-ADL for the same price as SIN-SYD (almost) and then have free flight ADL-SYD and SYD-ADL

I have booked QF TIX ex. SIN using a Japanese address with no problems.

August last year, I booked a one-way ticket for mrs serfty in January; SIN-MEL. This was done on the QF Web Site's SIN portal. Cost was about SGD580, which was charged at ~AUD471 to my OZ CC. The emailed eticket indicated this was charged by Qantas in SIN at "15 CAIRNHILL ROAD".

She travelled over on points.

FWIW, I also booked a one-way QF award LAX-SYD-MEL using the NA web portal. Was charged USD45 in taxes by QF in TUCSON AZ!

The website actually says:

Select your card type. Because customers can book from anywhere in the world using the Qantas website, it will only accept:

Visa Card
MasterCard
Bankcard
American Express
UATP
Diners Card

For what it's worth, I have just booked a SIN-SYD-SIN itinerary on Zuji, departing SIN on 25 May, for SGD 826.00 all up.

Outward flight is on QF31 and return on 17 June is on QF319 (BA codeshare).

Hard to beat.

I called Qantas call centre again to enquire about buying tixs from SIN website.

They now said I wouldnt be able to do it unless I had a credit card issued in SIN, my Aus issued card would not work.

But booking my tixs now so lets see if they are right.

I was going to go via Zuji as well but if I go via Qantas site I dont have to pay the service fee of 26SGD and the extra fee of $55AUD if I want to change dates.
