The manifest is a legal document of which body is in which seat at flight closing, there should not be changes from what is allocated, in theory

I know, I didn't say they couldn't find out your status, but they usually don't bother and don't care.
Unless they are trying to impress the CSS or CSM in the vain hope of receiving a good report.

Yesterday on QF4 and QF81 I was greeted at my seat by the CSS both times. QF4 flight he came to me as soon as I had boarded and on QF81 she stayed for a chat and seemed interested in what I had been up to!

Was greeted on QF38 the other day. However, the interaction was as fast as handing out an express pass for arrival and a sustained conversation was not realised.

Not really related to recognition - but Dash 8 services and shadow seats ... !!

Since everything has become a Q400 - rows 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 are all full, then there's a checkerboard layout of blocked seats through the middle, and then full up the back.

Now, every time I check in, I receive the exit row question, and I'm in row 1 or 2 - and even if I select no, I'm in row 2 or 3.

Great - who doesn't want to be at the front of the plane.

BUT

Everyone for the next 5 to 6 rows behind are seated 1 with an empty seat next to them.

Now, I understand weight and balance - but that is not the case - if I ask to be seated with an empty seat next to me at the lounge, they quite happily relocate me to row 5 / 6 / 7 typically.

I'm just of the thought process, on this aircraft - typically, if you can afford your premium passengers some more elbow room, then that's fantastic - so why offer all the elbow room to those with no status.

I guess, maybe it's just me - but I'd rather have a shadow next to me, than be seated up in row 1 / 2 /3 ... we're all typically waiting on the tarmac for PHL to come out anyway.

Keen to hear others feedback / experience ??

I was in 5A, so had a good view of the purser spending quite a bit of time coming to chat to the pax in 4A and 5C at the start of the flight, in both case offering them drinks from upfront (before even the J cabin had been served, from what I could see) - one had a beer from J, the other a bottle of water.

No greeting for this lowly WP but I got the impression she knew / personally recognised both these people as regulars, rather than it being a purely status-based exercise.

Excellent service coming back in J on 136 last night, with personalised greetings. I got the impression quite a few of the J cabin were WPs.

The way Y+ seat selection is working now for WP, it’s highly likely that 4A was P1, if not CL.

Maybe you need to select 5C or 5D next time?

I had my first non recognition on a CX flight post covid. Travelling J on CX162 a few days ago. Didn't mind too much personally.

Sude note: worst pork I've had on a plane in a long time. Theres overcooked and then theres whatever the CX crew did to this piece of pork.

Completely possible its not necessarily an elite but higher staff member as well. I watched Vanessa Hudson sit in row 4 for a SYD - MEL hop.

I agree with you about preferring a shadow to a front row. Plus as I am often connecting to/from international with quite a bit of hand luggage it’s better to be in a seat where you can stow a fat backpack under the seat in front of you rather than try to fit it into the very tiny overhead luggage lockers that are compulsory if you’re in an exit row. We Seat Family members almost always decline an exit row and take a seat further back.
