Hi, would anyone know if we get extra baggage allowance flying Cathay Pacific as it is a oneworld airline? I know I get extra allowance on Qantas but not sure about flying on other airlines? Thanks

Unfortunately, you only get priority check-in and lounge access, not priority baggage or extra baggage, as far as I’m aware.

I think those are things offered by Star Alliance, but that wouldn’t help you.

I have heard that CX treats QF elites well though, so you may get a positive outcome.

Correct on all fronts. Additional baggage is not an alliance wide benefit on OW like it is on *A.

I would disagree on the "all fronts" comment, while CX are good with their recognition, I have twice had to repack bags and remove items because they were 3Kg over the allowed weight to check in in terms of allowance, both times I was a WP using downtown check in. This was four years ago mind you.

Which goes in line with being correct on all fronts. As per samh004's post, there are no additional baggage rights when WP and flying on CX so they were right to ask you to shift items to reduce the 3kg of over-weight.

No, there was no "may get a positive outcome" for me as a WP, not that I expected one however I did feel 3Kg was a bit petty ;). I have never heard nor seen CX show lattitude when it comes to luggage, I am sure they do but by comparison, QF are much better, even when you bust their extra allowance! I checked a 70kg of luggage to Perth once that included a 30kg server, no issues at all.

I do agree 3kg is a bit petty for an OWE, but "dem's da rules"! :p:D

Maybe you didn't wink at the check-in agent the right way ;)

The last time I flew on CX (about 18 months ago) I definitely got F tags on my bags both ways; though, as noted above, this is not an OW entitlement, they apparently just do it out of the goodness of their hearts. And also as noted above, no extra weight allowance.

I wonder if the attitude would be different at the airport rather than ITCI. I find ITCI very stiff and unfriendly compared to the airport.

That's great input, as I have often wondered the same!

In June this year I flew CX from HKG to Syd (economy class) and I had 35 Kg of baggage. The check in staff told me that Qantas WP gets no "extra Baggage allowance" but she let me thru without any issues.

Out of curiosity, did you check in downtown?

I’ve found the CX staff at Chek Lap Kok to be nicer than the staff at ITCI, but I’ve always been travelling as a Silver MPC (and dad as a Diamond) when I’ve been, so haven’t had the pleasure to try as anything else.

It would appear if you are pushing the friendship as far as baggage goes that it pays to checkin at the airport from what has been posted, could ITCI be CX's version of the BA lounge dragons :D:D

Why doesn't oneworld introduce Priority Baggage Handling and higher baggage allowances for its elite members like *A?

I flew MEL-HKG-PVG in June on CX in Y. I got priority baggage handling without a problem. Made sure I was under the weight limit because I knew what I wanted to bring back.

Having said that I have flown JAL domestic well over weight and it was not mentioned at all. Currently an SG and it was recognised without a problem.

What he is alluding to though is that it's not a published benefit :p
