QF - No longer interline/through-check bags on separate PNR's [non oneworld]

Makes QF even less attractive to us... Just talking to my travel buddy tonight about QF flights BNE-SYD to then join me to fly SYD-AKL-TBU with NZ... "Sure they'll check 'em through" says I...

Apparently not now.... and he'll be on the QF flight that disembarks at the International terminal.... (QF30?)

Of course it's separate tickets... I can't imagine how you'd get BNE-SYD on QF in Y, then SYD-TBU on NZ in C on one ticket...

Yes, while I think it is shabby I can see the point... I just hope all the other non-OW airlines treat checking bags through with QF the same way... clearly noone here will object at all!

I think you are missing my point. Sometimes, booking two separate itineraries is not about saving money, but because it's the only way to get to your destination. Take for example a recent booking of mine.

QF: MEL - SIN - FRA
LH: FRA - FMO

On numerous occasions I have communicated with Qantas about having this booked on a single ticket, however, not only could they not find FMO (also has happened numerous times at airports), but they would simply not include it on a single itinerary. Instead, I have to chase around LH and QF to add information segments to each PNR in order to have the bags checked-through.

Would getting a TA to drop two e-tickets in to a single PNR work? My TA has done that before for me, and everything worked out beautifully.

Admittedly, both tickets were BA stock, so I don't know whether you can have multiple carriers e-tickets "live" at the one time inside a single PNR.

Fair enough change to me, but I do think it would make it less attractive to some people here. Most people who are casual flyers would not even know what the fuss is about.

So I can fly MCY-MEL on DJ then MEL-BWT on rex and can book my luggage straight through even though 2 separate bookings but not if 2 QF flights if on 2 separate PNRs.Yes that is truly wonderful customer service.:(

Might go someway to explaining the appearance of SQ, MH and others in the QF booking engine.

Umm no, read my above example and QANTAS's pdf FAQ's.

A travel agent? And I don't believe any other carrier in Australia would do the interline at the moment ... so QF did have a competitive advantage (or disadvantage based on your views). Will it affect their revenue? Probably not.

QF policy change - linkedPNRs no longer offer interline or through checked bags

Your reading skills aren't truly wonderful that's for sure! ;)

Go back and read QFCSA's post. The example your give QF would of course interline.

I think QFCSA has already made that point, attacking the argument rather than the person.

OK I am slow but I can still interline DJ to Rex.You have overlooked that point.

This is a service I've never used and since I fly QF little I doubt I'll miss it. However, to tell us that this is a way to "improve and streamline the customer experience" really does irritate me. Any way you cut it, this is a service that was previously offered and now isn't. Fair enough, but don't lie to me and call it an improvement.

If QF didn't interline baggage to OW partners I would have no reason to fly QF on the PER-SIN route.

And there are plenty of places where separate tickets offer better fare classes at cheaper prices. There is competition in SEAsia but little in Australia.

Meh ... storm in a teacup ... I don't check luggage much anyway ... I can't believe there are over 35 posts already

All Qantas are doing is aligning themselves with many of the other world's carriers - and not even that - still allowing alliance interlining on separate PNR's.

I don't see myself wasting any more time on this thread other than to say it will probably make QFCSA's tasks simpler ...

From my experience i get alot of MEL-SYD-NTL, last leg on OT, and this has all been ticketed on the same PNR, it also gives them a BP for the SYD-NTL flight too. Not to sure how it/was booked though.

All of my domestic OT- QF and vice versa have luggage through checked they have never been able to do international QF transfer

I don't really see a big issue with this change.

Most of the time (with my weird international itineraries) I have to collect luggage and check it in again with the next carrier.

This is more about QF and them not having a broad range of options to book other airlines, as can be expected.

If you use a travel agent, this routing can easily be put on the same ticket, and therefore, the same PNR.

There was never a guarantee that if you mis-connected on separate tickets that the connecting carrier will protect you on the next flight either. Having single ticketed itineraries provides more than just baggage interlining as well. I avoid multiple tickets wherever possible for through-connecting travel for this reason. Provides you with some peace of mind as well as luggage interline.

(1) How will this interline?

MEL-LAX - QF

LAX-SEA - AS

2 separate bookings, 2 PNRs

Is AS an affiliate - they are not OW?

(2) I have a good travel agent who jams everything into 1 PNR even if booked completely separately.

Does this count as 1 PNR?

+1

As long as I can still interline between AA and QF on separate PNRs I'm happy.
