Could those in the know please clarify Qantas first/business class lounges. Do the Melbourne, Sydney and Los Angeles Terminal 4 international airports all have business class lounges, separate from the standard international Qantas Club lounges or are they all the same (ie. regardless of class of travel, there's just one Qantas Club)? Thanks.

MEL and SYD international terminals have both first and business class Qantas Club.

LAX T4 has a joint Qantas Club/Admirals Club (with AA) and a separate section for first (& WPs) - the Flagship Lounge.

From my reading of the Qantas website, Melbourne, Sydney and Los Angeles (amongst others) all have business class lounges. Yet, in my phone conversation with a Qantas operator just a few minutes ago, I was assured, without any chance of error, that Qantas has no dedicated lounges that relate to the class of travel, anywhere in the world. The lovely lady was very polite in saying they have only Qantas Clubs and that's it. I even read her the information from their website (Flying with Us - Travel Classes - International Business, Qantas Club) but she was quite adamant (after putting my on hold twice to speak to supervisors) that that referred to passengers who weren't Qantas Club members in their own right (ie. it was merely point out that they have access to a lounge). So, is it correct that there are indeed dedicated business class lounges at the international airports of Melbourne, Sydney and Los Angeles (terminal 4)?

Well if you get to semantics, the agent is correct. In each case their is one Qantas Club. However if you are suitably qualified (by class of travel or status) you can enter the part of the Qantas Club that is for first class, otherwise you can't.

For international travel you do not need to be a Qantas Club member to access the Qantas Club. All business and first class passengers also have access.

Qantas Club Lounge is the generic term for a Qantas lounge. Business Class passengers and Qantas Club members are invited to use the Qantas Club lounge at international airports where such lounges exist. Consequently, they are also known as the Business Class lounge. One and the same thing.

At some locations, Qantas also have a dedicated First Class lounge, where they invite first class passengers and OneWorld Emerald passengers to visit. These are known as First Class Lounges and exist at the following locations (from my head, so may be more):
Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, London Heathrow Terminal 4, Los Angeles Terminal 4, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok (to be opening in April). At some locations they have arrangements with local lounges for their Qantas Club and Business Class passengers to one lounge and for their first class passengers to use another (e.g. SFO).

So when talking about an international terminal, Qantas Club = Business Class Lounge. First Class Lounge is separate and for first class and OneWorld Emerald passengers.

If you go to the QF website and find teh section on classes of travel - you will see in the business class section here that they refer to it as the Qantas Business Lounge (not the Qantas club). Sadly the First class page doesnt work for me :(

Similarly if you go to the INt'l airport in Sydney and walk through immigration look up to your left after duty free you will see the Qantas Business Lounge (aka QP) if you keep walking on, drift to your left a little and then look right - you will see the F lounge - I suggest taking a phot and emailing the relevant agent...

Thank you to everyone for clearing that up. If I've read correctly, if I fly QF (international) business out of Melbourne, Sydney or Los Angeles terminal 4, I'll be able to access a 'special' business section of the Qantas Club.

Well the business part is non-special. It is the first bit that is nicer.

No - you will be able to access the Qantas Business Lounge also known as the Qantas club. You will have to slum with all the proles who are travelling economy but have QP access (as a result of status or purchased QP membership or free pass).

There is no distinction in the Lounge between Business and Economy PAX. ALthough I am thinking next time to get a stick with a sponge and some red paint on it to tag people without black boarding passes ;)

No. Qantas Club = Business Class Lounge. They are one and the same. Nothing different. No separation. Business Class passengers, Qantas Club members and OneWorld Sapphire members get to use the same lounge, called the Qantas Club lounge or sometimes called the Business Class lounge.

The only one that is separate is the First Class lounge.

Okay. Thanks simongr. That clears it up - completely, I think!

Just remember if you see a guy with a stick and a red sponge = make sure your BP is visible...

Just because a BP is red doesn't necessarily mean not travelling in business or first class.

Just to confuse the OP even more. If you have a domestic business class ticket, no OW Spahire or Emerald status or a Qantas Club member you do not have access to the Qantas Club.
So for QF domestic there is no Business Class Lounge just a Qantas Club.

Actually, they are both one and the same, these "Qantas Club"/"Qantas Business" Lounges.

If you follow simongr's link you should see a "Flash" presentation: International Business.

Click "Before You Fly" and select "Qantas Club Lounge" you will see the "Qantas Club Lounge" page.

In this is the following text: "As an international business class passenger you can enjoy the facilities on offer in any Qantas Business lounge".

Take Melbourne as a good case in point (due to it being "one" building):
  • It has a Qantas Club for domestic travellers who are either QP members, SG, WP, CL, oneWORLD Sapphire or oneWORLD Emerald.
  • Melbourne also has a Business Class Lounge/Qantas Club for international travellers who are either travelling in J (or F for that matter) or are eligible by meeting one of the above criteria.
  • There is also a First Class Lounge in Melbourne or international travellers who are either travelling in F or are WP, CL or oneWORLD Emerald.

Nice guy huh? Remind me never to sit next to you in the Qantas club (that's the first class lounges BTW)

Bah, that's what a black texta is for! 30secs to fill in the wrong 'colour' on the BP and 20 sec to write 'i'masnob' in reverse on the stick bearer's forehead.
Hmm, two guys in a QP going at each other with stuff better seen in a day care centre - sound like a scene from "Borat". Count me in!
