QF F - First Impressions

Had the Pol Roger Sir Winston on QF12 in early August - didn't like it as much as the Comtes but then I am no expert. Was offered VC LGD on QF2 ex Dubai a few weeks ago but turned it down as just too tired......

I like CdC > Winston Churchill >LGD
5 out of my last 6 sectors have had LGD loaded. Tasted a few mind you just to make sure that I do indeed rate it third on the list :D

The CDC made a welcome return on the LAX flight two weeks ago.
A personal favourite - but I've encountered only the Winston on earlier trips this year.

This has become standard ex-LAX. I was horrified the first time too. It's so they don't have to pay tax on the bottle. I mean, for a ticket that retails for $12K return... Come on. Way to give a terrible first impression.
Yeah, I know the reason, but for it to happen is ridiculous. I was on QF12 F in early July and had Taittinger CDC on the ground. Guessing it is a recent thing. Even more ridiculous is that alcohol is so much cheaper there...

Oh, thought it was a region/loading thing. My next QF F trips are ages away - mid next year on QF 9/10 so I will try and see if I can get something different!

I think those who are lucky enough to get a F seat should also be able to pronounce correctly names of champagne.

Maybe QF cabin crew are not bringing out the champagne of choice due to poor pronunciation not fit for an F service.

So to those prospective F passengers please practice your pronunciation before boarding your flight:

Taittinger pronunciation How do you say that Word?

Bollinger - How do you say that Word? How do you say that Word?

If they have to dumb down the [food] menu to print it in English, I think we can use English pronunciations for our champagne. ;)

Thats a bit Jetstar! :D

In all seriousness the standard is to pronounce foreign words in English as is they were an English term. We don't say 'I am flying to Paree' today when we are flying to Paris. That would sound ridiculous. There is no reason to pronounce Champagnes any differently.

The main faux pas with champagne is with those using only 'Veuve' to refer to Veuve Clicquot'. 'Veuve' by itself is incorrect and makes no sense whatsoever.

Would agree with you mostly however how would you pronounce faux pas? Have heard Target being called Tar-ghay.

Anyway moving on....

Perhaps it might be easier to ask for CDC instead of Taittinger or Winston instead of Pol Roger or LGD instead of Veuve Cliquot?. Would give the impression you are familiar with F and champagme?. A bit DYKWIA perhaps?

Since we are being champagne ponces here...do they at least server the champagne in F in decent glassware, unlike the rubbish used J?

Yes the glasses are more than acceptable - but what's with the kiddies camp cutlery in QF F? Did they source them from Ray's outdoors?

going away from champagne

i noticed that the F cabin menu has several choices for entree, main and dessert

is it possible to have more than one choice from each section?

I don't mind the cutlery but agree it's a bit avant-garde by their usual standards.
Love the crockery and have a full set at home (legitimately purchased I should add :D )

It's F so by and large you can choose what you want.
I often choose two entrees/ small plates instead of one from each course.
I also often have the cheese and dessert if I haven't eaten during transit.
