QF F - First Impressions

How does the QF F amenity kit compare to Emirates F?. I know the Emirates J kit blows the QF J out of the water.
QF F kit great for using on board and gives you all you need in terms of cleaners and moisturiser, tiny little containers that are pretty close to one use only. Emirates have quite large bottles of Bulgari branded products. Otherwise not too much of a difference in what is in the bag. Tissues mirror, comb, toothbrush etc.

The QF kit is lacking lip balm, which is about the only product I ever really want to use on a flight.

I'm afraid the EK kit much superior. The case itself is worth keeping (and I have - its my regular travelling bathroom kit bag now).

But, believe it or not, the best F amenity kit I have ever come across is from .... United! I gave them away a while ago and in some other thread I listed the contents but of course I can't find it now.

Contained absolutely everything you'd need; maybe 12 or more items? (I'm looking from a guy's perspective of course). Even a small deodorant stick. And all the liquids & gels were in a stout, clear plastic inner zip bag you could put straight out for security if you re-used it (now that's thoughtful).

Edit: ps no PJs or slippers of any sort, though!

Agree, my EK case is also the one I use for travelling

I actually prefer the look of the Qantas one, but its shape is all wrong - too flat and you can't put anywhere near enough things in. The EK one looks as though it will show wear and tear too quickly, although I guess you can always throw it out and replace with a new one....

Yes, PF, I didn't comment on that point but I do agree with you. My QF F flights have been a mix of travel with partner in F, and others with partner in J :)) He often declines to "waste" his points on an upgrade. I don't understand the term, used in this context. :)).

If we are both in F, we usually dine together but, apart from that, we are both happy to have the time and space to ourselves for movies, reading, working, sleeping etc. Indeed, I think it's one of the real luxuries of travel up the pointy end. Just doing what you want, when you want, with staff on hand to meet every need - and with a smile! What could be better? :)

I have only enjoyed the dizzy heights of F on one occasion.
Mrs GPH and I flew QF 1 (return) and had a very nice time.
Mrs GPH especially likes the separate, pod like existence where she doesn't have to interact with me , or anyone else for that matter !

We are exactly the same - having spent 35 years working together (mostly from home, so we could share child duties) and going on long holidays we feel no need to be together on the plane and are quite happy to settle into our own selfish little places and watch movies or sleep!

Between us all, we could easily fill the QF F cabin - with barely a word exchanged! :)
Perhaps the odd clink a Champagne flutes to break the silence? :)

Nah - too much trouble... you have to press the call bell, wait for cabin crew to arrive, give them the glass, get them to walk to your partner, clink the glass, then wait while they bring it back.

Easier to just drink in silence :)

Perhaps each of us with a glass in each hand?

WOW - what a difference in VA and QF post flt surveys:

VA - 100 questions seeking info on EVERY aspect of flt - and I mean EVERY aspect - like booking / check-in / lounge / boarding / cabin crew / flt crew / F & B / luggage services - EVERYTHING
QF - 3 questions.

What should I draw from this? - QF already know everything? - VA are sticky beaks?

Note: Posted in both TR threads I recently started.

I think the CEO states Qantas has the highest level of satisfaction of any airline when he was talking a few months ago. They have no room for improvement it would seem.

Certainly seems to fit with the several issues i have raised here but go unanswered by the company rep.

I've tried QF F once (a few months ago) and have two more in the next few weeks. I totally didn't know about the touch screen panel which controls the seat massage feature amongst other things. At the time, I thought it was odd that J (Skybed Mk II) had a seat massage feature and F didn't. Little did I know that wasn't the case!

Also had the Taittinger CDC as well. Wasn't a fan despite loving the Taittinger NV. Looking forward to the other two (Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill and I forgot if the other one is VC LGD or Bollinger LGA) - hopefully can try them both soon!

I've just come back from the two F flights (QF127 then QF12). On 127 I was in 1A and didn't get asked about the seat features. No big deal. Another issue about 1A that no one has mentioned is that due to the curvature of the nose, the overhead bin is slightly narrower. I couldn't fit my just-within-the-size-limit rollerboard and had to put it above 2A (Mum didn't mind).

On 12 I was in 3A (had to move to 2A because the older lady who was supposed to be in 2A couldn't read her BP and sat in 3A and got settled before I boarded). Worked out OK though, my friend was in 1A and we dined together. I was asked about the in seat features. Most alarmingly, on 12 they only had cheap pre-departure champagne - no wait, I mean sparkling (due to "customs" issues). Seriously?! They're giving that excuse?? The only one on offer was the Taittinger CDC.. only averaged a bottle per flight, starting to get the hang of it though. Still haven't had Pol Roger or VC LGD...
For those that have, are they only loaded on the DXB/LHR flights?

This has become standard ex-LAX. I was horrified the first time too. It's so they don't have to pay tax on the bottle. I mean, for a ticket that retails for $12K return... Come on. Way to give a terrible first impression.

Lucky on the 747 there aren't any seat 'features'... one button for seat 'down' and one button for seat 'up' :)

As for the overhead bin - that's been the same since about 1969. It's the only reason to board early if the flight is full. To snag the space over rows 2 before they get there :)

1A and 1K in the QF 747 don't have any overhead bin.
I presume that the OP is referring to the A380 where the overhead above 1A is smaller due to the curvature of the aircraft.
I however have no trouble fitting my Samsonite Cosmolite wheelie bag into the locker, although I sometimes have to rearrange the duvet on top of it.

ah. if the OP is referring to the a380 my apologies. I thought it was the 747.

Had the Pol Roger Sir Winston on QF12 in early August - didn't like it as much as the Comtes but then I am no expert. Was offered VC LGD on QF2 ex Dubai a few weeks ago but turned it down as just too tired......
