QF Double Status Credit Promos - I am not 100% sure I follow the logic anymore...

The logic for targeted DSC's would have to be different for every situation. Personally, DSC's enable me to comfortably reach P1, so I stay with Qantas. Without them, I might make it , but it would depend very much on what jobs came in and when. My better option would be to retain WP and then switch to VA.
Once LTG is achieved, there's little incentive to continue to chase SC's if it doesn't seem likely that the great gulf to P1 can be crossed. Bit like LTP!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the DSC offers may never come back.

My 2cents:
After Qantas offered so many of them this year their lounges have become very crowded during peak travel time, more so than over the past few years. Giving people a taste of a status level above may have generated interest in ppl wanting to stay loyal to QF to reach that status again without the DSC sale.

In a perfect QF world, those already high on the QF Koolaid should never receive these types of promotions (SG and above).

Only the wayward 'sheep' and new recruits to the 'flock' need to be incentivised by DSC promotions etc...
Whilst I agree with you post and reading some of your other other posts your have given QF the flick and are now clearly in the VA camp which I understand. Let's not forget VA has also run a number of DSC offers over the past couple of years and given the low VA WP retain target, VA DSC offers, family pooling, shopping spend and to that end surely any VA DSC promotions ends up being worse on the VA side.

Don't take this the wrong way, I keep I feet in both the QF (WP1) and VA (WP) camps. The local carrier carrier DSC offers just make it so much easier to hit the target and move straight back to SQ which is based flying miles or the amount of coin one spends with SQ (PPS).

I am very disappointed that VA has stepped back onto the DSC bandwagon and would be the first to cheer an outright DSC ban (you want it, earn it).

But from an airline point of view, your example is exactly why untargetted DSC promotions could reduce overall revenue rather than increase it {which is the whole point of them).

Why would I want to run a promotion which actively encourages my customers to spend less with me and use the opposition?

Targetted promotions may however bring back a wayward customer or attract further spend from low spending customers.

I find my self agreeing with this statement, however whilst QF and VA continue to go down this path I will take advantage of it. OT I am in a position where I control my own bookings and after many years of travel, but no expert, I like many others game the system to my advantage. One of the best offers I am always watching out for the VA triple points offers or the 40% off J offers. In my experience these are the best available locally as I earn a disproportionate number of points for the money spent (triple points) and all my points VA points eventually end up up SQ or travel VA J for only a few bucks more than Y and a much higher SC earn rate.

I have to say that as a regular flyer vs (seriously) frequent flyer, the DSC’s promotions enable me to enjoy higher status. That said I mostly fly J anyway. So one could argue (F lounge access notwithstanding) I have the basic perks anyway. And until I reach LTG I have LTQP to fall back on.

This is interesting as this coming year will be my last year at platinum unless there is a DSC as I have conferences in the UK that dates are known a year out as well as other trips I can schedule a long way out. If not then back to my lifetime gold. The other big benefit of platinum is the points earning rate which is enough to nearly cover an upgrade from economy or PE to business in one direction on most trips. The other push is the SC earn on flexible Y fares. All a supersize strategy to lock my QF business and spend more.

I had to fly BNE-TSV-BNE last week at short notice. As WP QFF I would default to QF flights, but for the BNE-TSV leg only Virgin had a flight available at the right time. All researched on my computer. Booking on Virgin for the return trip done by someone else.
This morning I receive a Double Status Award email for trips. So that's how they use my browsing data .....

[EDIT AND QUESTION] - The T&Cs state "* An eligible flight for the purpose of this promotion means any Qantas marketed flight with a QF flight number on your ticket where Status Credits are normally earned. ". The email title states "Fly to Townsville, get 50% more Status Credits".

Does this mean I should receive double SCs for any Qantas marketed flight, or per the email heading just to TSV ?

You'll get a 50% bonus on any eligible flight. Not just TSV, but not double either.

The "perfect QF world" is an amusing concept :D

But P1's do not get targeted SC promos. At least nobody I know holding P1, and me over the past five years, have never gotten one.

They've been pulling a recent search you did as the email heading for quite a while now.

But seriously..... VA gained a new customer, and QF managed to retain me as a member, but for far less revenue....
I wonder what the sweet spot for them is when calculating the cost/benefit of retaining elite customers....
Wouldn't one consideration be that QF gained your business for you to accrue the 1200 SC by throwing you a few toasted sandwiches and glasses of champagne all while you are paying more for the privilege that you would on VA. The money is made on the flights you take, not the potential

The strategy behind targetted percentage increase of status credits I can't work out

I have been platinum longer than my husband. I tend to earn more status credits than he does however neither of us are close to P1
However he has had targetted status credit offers

And that's exactly why Qantas is not sending you as many (or any) targeted offers. As far as Qantas is concerned, you're a rusted-on, loyal Platinum member so it doesn't need to spend money incentivising you to fly more or stick with Qantas.

I’m actually wondering who gets extra targeted miles offers vs targeted SC offers. When I was a bronze member I got a double miles offer. I’m assuming this is because QF thinks I don’t see the value in status and the miles are more of an incentive. But if you are someone with status, then the SC offers might be more enticing.

I see what you mean. But I also think there are more dimensions to how QF sends out promos.

In my mind the below scenarios work out ;

As an example ; if you are Bronze member with very low QF points and based on your travel history - you might be someone who takes one or two international flights every year. Then QF might send you a double/triple points promo to induce you to book flights just with the sole intention of getting your points tally up. And QF senses that you are not the type of guy who travels often or would be interested in doing so and hence points

If you are Bronze member and have got enough points for a Y to J upgrade (50,000 points on a Saver fare is the bare minimum) and if QF sees that in the past membership year you take 3 to 4 international long haul trips, each tallying at least 100 SC each trip, then you are likely a Silver now or will be one soon. QF then sees you as a potential candidate who could do with a bit of status and tries to see if you are interested in going to Bronze to Silver and to Gold by releasing a DSC offer

If you're already a Silver member or a Gold member (in my case), QF tries to release more DSC to try and pull you towards securing a Platinum. And mind here that one would need 1400 SC, which isn't easy with only one or two trips (unless the trips are on F or J international long haul during DSC). By sending out a DSC - one at the beginning of membership year, QF ensured that I'd be able to retain Gold for that membership year and (hopefully, fingers crossed) QF sends me another sooner so that I can get to Platinum
