Re: Qantas 767 Upgrade - It's happening!

Yuk! I really find cloth far more comfortable than leather - :-|

Leather is a way of saving $$$ in the longer term - the cloth seat covers detach easily for laundering (it's a regular swapping of clean with soiled). The leather simply gets wiped (with a disinfectant impregnated cleaning cloth)- there are some areas that get less wiped than others ...

Re: Qantas 767 Upgrade - It's happening!

pity they dont put new overhead lockers in
these aircraft stilldont have much of a life left, so I suspect the cost/ additional time for new bins/sidewalls/lighting etc just didnt work.
a seatcover change, new curtains, panels and some faux-wood inserts and installation of a few wifi units is much easier.

what's with the Jetstar orange???
isnt it faux-wood. when the overhead lockers get an orange stripe id be worried.

Comfort on short haul about the same, long hauli prefer cloth, but leather does give a much classier impression when entering the plane

Re: Qantas 767 Upgrade - It's happening!

FINALLY!
The new interior looks superb

I agree- it actually looks like nice classy leather rather than that hard cough they often have on LCC or European airlines, just hope it feels like it as well! Now for the orange... I am hoping in real life it will look more like fake wood though I do admit on those pictures it does look quite... Scary :shock::eek:

With a less than classy miasma when exiting after an 8 hour overnight flight ...

Re: Multi-million dollar Qantas upgrade - Eggplant economy and charcoal business

Definately not the ZX birds after doing more digging, QF own 16 and that's the refurb number quoted, the ZX birds are leased.

Qantas brought the ex BA -336 ZX aircraft a number of years ago. Sure some are on a lease agreement, but the lease is with Qantas owned shelf companies. They do this with lots of aicraft including some of their original 767's (the -338's). So in essence Qantas own all their (passenger) 767 including the ex BA ones. From a maths perspective 7 will miss out, and agree that these will be the ones to miss out, but you never know.

On closer inspection your correct in some aspects, OGV is not QF owned as its Cayman Islands (unless QF are minimising tax but why do it for 1), OGM is through a shelf compay, while the others are all outright, while three of the ZXs are also owned outright with others leased from shelf companies, so there is no real clear picture of what will be the lucky 16, although from memory the ZX fleet are very much high cycle by comparison to the QF birds and that may be a factor.

So you don't like flying on Virgin, even in J, or is it the kind of leather that is important?

Judging by the name of the company that owns -OGV I would say that it too is really a Qantas company. And yes the ex BA a/c are some of the earliest MSN's in the fleet, so reckon they will go as leaving only a couple would cause all kinds of scheduling and maintenance issues.

I prefer cloth - but will travel whatever - for short flight it's not a deal breaker.

This had been the case ever since I flew *Class back from BKK to MEL on the red eye.

Getting rid of them would remove the RR issue as well, a considerable drain on spares no doubt.

Re: Qantas 767 Upgrade - It's happening!

Well I already preferred the 76 than the 73 when flying to SYD and back, this is icing on the cake for me! :D

Re: Qantas 767 Upgrade - It's happening!

Agreed the 76 is a far better bird than the 73 indeed any wide bodied aircraft is better than a 73 even an A320 is more comfortable that a a 73 with its narrow isles and tight cabin, Give me a 76 any day. Hopefully they will all be done and in service soon. :D

Re: Qantas 767 Upgrade - It's happening!

Still would like to see some QF customisation of the seats (eg. DJ with its alternate coloured headrests).

Maybe a black roo stamped into the headrest (couldn't be too expensive), or some Red in that presumably aboriginal artwork on the cabin divider.
Also see they are sticking with the heavy curtain between J/Y... Whilst I prefer a curtain to DJ's magnetic cord, I am impressed with AAs lighter see thru curtain.

Re: Qantas 767 Upgrade - It's happening!

I'm in the 767 fan brigade too, I just feel so cramped at the window on a 737. If the middle seat is taken there is just no elbow room whatsoever. The A320 fuselage shape just seems to offer that extra bit of breathing space, as does the 767.

Re: Qantas 767 Upgrade - It's happening!

As I understand it, it was to be a one aicraft trail (initially anyway). Looks good though.
