Was intrigued to see 3 (yes... THREE!!) FAs approach the gate to check BPs for tonight's 694. Two manned the scanners whilst the third tagged small bags to go under seats rather than in the overheads. This after an announcement calling for larger bags "to be brought to the gate to go in the hold, due to full flight"...I've seen fuller of late...and followed by an on board announcement that all tagged bags MUST go under seats.

Someone at QF has been on a fact-finding mission at BA!!

I must say: the crew on the flight were the best I've had in months. A smile and a joke for everyone and a second grog run despite the very short sector. Gave my feedback to the CSM on deplaning.

BD

Glad you're all happy. I am responsible and fit both my large and small bag into the space that is occupied by the typical wheelie bag. Not sure about being treated like a child.

Easier to treat all passengers as children (80/20 rule)...just like they do on AA, which is the way to do it.
No BS, let them enforce the rules their way and the journey will begin quicker and smoother.

What we want boarding done to 5 minutes do we? Boarding is done quickly and smoothly on my flights plenty of which have every seat occupied.

Love it!!

Nice way you cut out the reasoning.

I guess being a responsible adult who stows their luggage in the most efficient way possible is too much for some to handle. Oh well defend the clowns who stow their daypack lengthways in the overhead.

Not to mention I don't have a stupid wheelie bag. So 98% of the time in under the size and 7kg limit. But that's fine have a go at me.

How did they handle those who used their carry-on entitlement of 2 x 105cm rollaboards?

The reasoning is not necessary to illustrate your attitude, chill!

If you go back and view *my* reasoning, you'll note at no point have I either defended this change in process or the ones who currently abuse the system. I've merely passed on my observation of a change in process.

Perhaps you got confused by my describing both this boarding process AND saying what a great crew I had once airborne. I'll take this as constructive criticism so that in future I keep the two in two discreet threads. That way I won't confuse the children.

Enjoy the rest of your Friday, medhead.

Hi serfty,

I was toward the front of the PB line so didn't to see too much of the application. I did hear the FA say "so that one will need to go under the seat." I'm *guessing* that if they were judged small enough then they were allowed in the cabin but - given the previous announcement - that anything else directed to the hold.

Given QF's lack of application of PB, what *will* be interesting will be what FAs do when they go to close the bins and see a tagged piece of luggage in the overhead. I'm thinking that - over time - people will just disregard the tags anyway.

The classic combination of a lengthways daypack, and someone from the rear trying to leave their items closer to the front played our spectacularly on Sunday evening. The interloper left a large box in sideways, protecting an egg carton (could have been chocolate eggs, but I suspect they were from a Hen). Then the day pack went in, between them taking up most of the bin.

Along comes a cranky male, with a large wheelie, suit-bag and laptop bag and immediately begins re-arranging. The eggs lost their protection, the day pack appeared briefly next to the owner who looked not a little surprised, but was unable to react with their child demanding attention. Once the huge wheelie bin was in the rest was shoved unceremoniously back in!

I found it totally enthralling, but hoped the damaged eggs didn't leak from their plastic bag for the sake of the cleaning crew. I didn't hang around to check it out, but figured the person from about row 30 got a lesson in flying etiquette, the hard way.

I should have said at the start, no tagging of under-seat bags for that flight.

They did this on my BA CDG-LHR flight last month. I was in 1D. My laptop bag was tagged for "under the seat"

... under what seat?

This has nothing to do with your first post. You talk about my attitude. Well tell me, exactly what do you love? What is "it" that you love?

You'll probably find any attitude is about the post below.

Love it!!

Maybe I should express it another way. I follow the luggage rules. I get on as quickly as I can. I am considerate of others on the flight. I'm going to express my annoyance at being made to suffer because other don't.

Will be ripping off the tag if this ever happens to me. Below the seat is where my legs go, not bags.

With this type of attitude is there any wonder why there are issues fitting hand luggage into flights?

As a tall person, I kind of resent this comment. It's physically impossible for me to sit in the seat with out the under seat bit to put my legs.
this is without my army caused leg injury which makes it incredibly painful to fly, fullstop.

Carry on is out of control.

I have a large(ish) laptop bag. It's not too much to expect it go in overhead bins above me in row 4. Sometimes I can put it under seat in front if there's any space.

You can always select the exit rows, where luggage under the seat is forbidden and you have extra leg room.

If QF told me I "Had" to put a bag under the seat in front of me, I would be asking to be de-boarded and refunded. There's no way i'm placing anything under the seat in front of me, at my height.

AA have no rhyme nor reason. I witnessed the other day, someone swanning by row 3, putting a carryon over head and waltzing down the back to coach, all whilst talking to an FA asking where their seat was.

The FA was watching him put the bag in the overhead, and said/did nothing. They'll just gate check once full, and to be damned with anyone who's late.

I too like others fit my laptop bag on top of my wheel-aboard. The lack of courtesy in utilisation of the overhead lockers never ceases to amaze. I do my best to take up as little room as possible, yet others do their best to not give a fig.

My response would be ... i am happy to put it under my seat, please move the seat forward so i can physically achieve it ...
