I always tell the person tagging my bag that I'm in 1A etc and show the BP again. The tag doesn't get put on the bag.
The same should work for QF.

The person tagging the bag was the person who had just checked me in and printed the boarding pass.

And likely if you'd pointed out your seat allocation (as I doubt they look at it) your bag wouldn't be tagged.

Way too generous for domestic 737's and/or A320's.
Halve it. And possible reduce the size as well.
