QF club lounge observations

attendance is not mandatory.

Correct ... but only in SYD.

Elsewhere, joint terminal use with the orange-hordes renders the Lounge a mandatory sanctum*.

BD

*Except when the Lounge is also host to the tangerine-dream.

I've spent a fair bit of time in lounges on all 6 continents and found Australia's to be pretty exceptional on the whole. The F lounges in Mel and Syd are right up there with the world's best. As are the domestic J lounges compared with domestic lounges elsewhere. It's pretty hard to complain. Especially now with that Island Dining menu. Granted I haven't spent much time in the Qantas Clubs but they seem pretty similar just walking through.

While it may be "simple" for those who choose to pay for Qantas Club membership, it's a different story for those who achieve access through status.

i'm referring to the QANTAS CLUB..via paid membership..if you gain it through 'status'...in my opinion you have LESS cause to whinge!!

Some choose to try and deal with their issues.

Each to their own I guess...

ummm...so they are dealing with THEIR issues by affecting those around them!! sounds like how some in society 'deal with their own issues'....and we see the results on the news every night!!!!

this is my last post on this forum...(i can hear the cheers already)...im sick of some AFFers self importance on here ... yes...each to their own i guess!!

I have no idea why people posting comments about food standards etc at the QP would give anyone cause to think those comments are affecting anyone else but themselves.

When all is said and done, the QP was originally opened IIRC as a club lounge, exactly that, as a place where QC members, who had paid for membership, and J pax could gather before a flight in a private area away from the masses, where an occasional computer was available, where a work station was available and some slightly more comfortable chairs were available to sit it. The original ones had some bikkies and some instant coffee where you could help yourself. Those facilities have improved significantly to what we have now. It is still meant to be a lounge where we can wait for our flights and have a snack and a drink whilst we wait. A SNACK & A DRINK, Not a three course dining room for one and all.
It has never ever been advertised as an al-la carte dining area with high class offerings etc. I think many people are thinking that they are a bit DYKWIA and simply expect too much.

[/Cheering...] Appears UTR DKWWA.

Some of the pasta dishes they serve in the Qantas lounges are quite nice. Some of the pasta dishes are awful.

The business lounge has become very predictable in the hot food they serve. Argentinian beef with mash potato is quite nice. The rest are questionable.

Virgin is not much better. The choice appears to be hot dogs or vegetarian fried rice which looks like most people avoid.

Sure I have status and did not pay for Qantas club membership but a lot of times I do not get to my destination until after 10:00pm and it would be nice to be able to have something edible for dinner at a reasonable time without having to go and buy overpriced food from the terminal.

?............would be nice to be able to have something edible for dinner at a reasonable time without having to go and buy overpriced food from the terminal.

Sorry John, I don't wish to be confrontational but..... Where does it say in the QC membership or your J class ticket that Qantas are required to provide any passenger with DINNER at any time.

My original post was a (long and verbose, sorry) observation that the food in the lounges was not great, and too often the same everywhere in the country which can become boring for frequent fliers. It is my belief was the QP/J Lounge is advertised as a status and club membership or J ticket *benefit* to attract and retain customers.

I also said that I sometimes go into the terminal to find other options when I am sick of the lounge food or bored because I have already had that selection 8 times in a week.

None of this was intended as a complaint, just an observation that for minimal cost (I believe) QF could do better food and more variety (imagine a State and district based local fare !?!) to wow new customers who might decide to become frequent fliers on QF, or to retain loyal QFFs who are the ones most likely to spend lots of time in the lounge. I believe it's a commercial decision to win new business and retain existing market share, I have no illusions that QF would ever spend shareholder profit just because the DYKWIA crowd post on AFF.... but they might respond to falling ticket sales.

Now, must go book a flight for Friday evening... do I start typing WWW.Q or WWW.V.... hotdogs or goulash again.... hmmmm

Very well said. For me, the comfort if a relaxing seat, nice drink and snack is what a lounge is for. Yes a great hot meal is nice but is a bonus.

An International lounge is a little bit different, more substantial food as well as comfort is expected.

On evening flights between 6:00pm-8:00pm Qantas provides dinner in economy. Sometimes it is OK.

As for lounges Qantas goes to the trouble to provide food already. Why not have some variety including western options. Not a fan of African or Asian dishes.

e.g When party pies were served they used to be finish in seconds. Popular? They would have to be to go that quickly.

e.g When chicken wings are served these go very quickly.

e.g Argentinian slow cooked beef with mash potato or cous cous is very popular.

e.g Gourmet pizza (not my favourite) is very popular

There are times when I encounter the chicken stir fry broth/soup on almost every visit for a month in both SYD and BNE. That is not variety.

The problem is that QF is putting low yield and high yield customers into the same J lounge.
They have no problem serving me salmon, lamb cutlets etc in the air, but they can't afford to do so on the ground.
If they restricted the J lounge to J customers, then they would be able to afford to serve some decent food.

Many of us fly during the dinner period so we'd get a meal somewhere. I'd rather eat a better meal in the lounge than a re-heated meal in the air. They provide food, but it'd be nice if they put out better quality food.

The island dining in the J lounge is a good option.

Always thought QP T2 served tasty food......IMO better than Jlounge T3.
