QF BKK flights

Agree, remain calm but maintain a firm ground based on clearly QF published rules of through check onto OW airlines even if on separate PNR's.

Depends on the agent you get at check in. Last year I had trouble to check in all the way on separate QF and RJ tickets and only got it after a long argument with that agent in MEL which eventually had to call her supervisor to do it. The whole process was very stressful.

I've only tried this at the First class check-in zone at Qantas MEL, they seem to know what they are doing.

Ok i'm gonna accept their changes and hope it all works well. Flying J to SIN so should be off the plane first and then run to T2. Hope there are no delays and my luggage makes it, but will formulate backup plan in case. Hopefully the flight into SIN gets in earlier.

FYI, I used the First class check in at SYD before and they were even unsure if they could check my luggage through on Jetstar Asia (3K) (though eventually it all went through and even got a BP), so i'm not holding out much hope for MH, but of course will insist since they are oneworld airlines.

There is no issue checking bags through to mh or any oneworld partner on separate tickets.

I tried it once at SYD First Check-in. Wasted more than 20 minutes and the end result was my luggage playing catch up on the trip.

That could happen even on the same PNR, making the experience irrelevant in the context. Its Qantas policy to do so http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/policies/ReadytoFlyFAQ191010.pdf and was discussed ad verbatim at the time it was changed to be OW only

What was the connection you were trying?

QF-QF-QF-AA-AA-AA-AA-AA. The first 3 AA flights were part of Oneworld award and the next 2 were YUPs. From memory it required 2 tags and when I got to LAX they ripped everything up and re-issued new luggage tags.

I have had a few other instances asking for QF-CX connections on different PNRs and they refused to do them so I do not bother asking anymore and factor a little extra time to transfer luggage at transfer desk or even collect luggage and check-in again.

I know some of my routings are complex but the fewer connections the better.

FYI, they said I could not check luggage through to MH because the minimum connection time for QF to MH is 60mins. Missed out by 5 minutes. Now forced to go via Brisbane to arrive at 4pm but they confirmed that I can check luggage all the way through from Sydney. Now no First Lounge and pretty much no chance of refurbed A330. On the plus side I got them to book me on the earlier QF82 back to SYD which is what I initially wanted but had no seats.

Refurbed A330??

The cabin refit/refresh isn't slated to begin until late 2014 so I would very much doubt that the program will have even commenced by the time you fly in September.

Well managed to get MH to change my flight to a later one for SGD20 but now have an overnight in KUL. Got QF to put me back on QF81 with no penalty.

another of my flights cancelled. 24th Oct BKK to SYD. FFS Qantas.

This is starting to get ridiculous.

Qantas is offering Emirates as alternate flight that day or with 3K BKK-SIN then on QF6 or QF82.

Are loads that bad that they can't keep a daily A330 going?

I'll push for Emirates, otherwise I'll make them route me via CX to HKG and QF128 like they offered someone else in another thread. They should give me emirates though. They did for all the other flights of mine to/from BKK that they cancelled

I flew SYD-BKK on Saturday 3 weeks ago and it was full. I didn't spot a free seat anywhere.

Qantas is a dying airline. Its to be expected now.

Hardly. Qantas has cancelled BKK flights (and other destinations) during the low season for years and years. From mid August thru September and October are low seasons for Thailand as it is the two months of the highest rainfall.

But but but... this is AFF and if we're not going to mindlessly criticize QF, what will we do...? ;)
