QF A380 Cabin - which section/seat is best?

Best Economy seats on a 380

We are off to LA in about 4 weeks - wife is silver, and I will be too by then.
What are the best seats on an A380 in economy - I'm looking at 80a/b or 80j/k if we can get them, but if we can't, are there any other better than average seats? I've only flown on the 380 once, and was upgraded to PE unexpectedly.

Re: Best Economy seats on a 380

I've been on the Hudson Fysh twice now. It should have been three times but Qantas sprung a 747 on me on one of the trips by surprise!

My second flight was in Economy, seat 53A. I quite liked it. Just far enough away from the galleys. What I noticed was that the seats in the A380 are noticeably more comfortable. Maybe that's because they are newer, maybe they are slightly larger. I don't know. I had applied for an upgrade, didn't get one, but in the end it wasn't too bad.

My first flight was upstairs in 16K. Now that was very nice! ;)

It would be interesting to see what other people think ... just in case I don't get 16K next time!

Oh ... and don't forget that all the seats have a USB connection. VERY useful!

(OT ... I discovered that some of the brand-spanking new B738s have USB connections on every seat as well!)

For some reason this thread will not open for me on either Internet Explorer or FireFox.

Which cabin in economy on an A380 would people recommend rather than a specific seat? I booked a flight MEL-SIN on QF10 for travel on Boxing Day and it is scheduled to be an A380. I was pre-allocated 51C (I guess a good seat behind bulkhead) but went looking for 80A or 80K. n the end I settled on 80K based on recommendations by serfty in another thread.

I was in economy on the upper deck of an SQ A380 and it was not too bad when getting off as I think there is a separate aerobridge for the upper deck. I am in no hurry to get out in SIN but what sort of timelag is there getting off the aircraft between say 51C and 80K on a QF A380?

I'm pre-allocated 52G for an upcoming flight - looks ok, but looking around for anything better! (80A/K are not available :()

In row 80 you will be among the last off; coming into Singapore that should not be an issue.

I have my first flight on an Qantas A380 in March and was able to call Qantas and snag seat 80K :)

If a front row bulkhead comes available, i'll will change to that, otherwise I am happy with my 80K for now. or better still an OPUP to PE would be nice. However flight is virtually empty.

This flight will also make me Silver by 10 SC's!! QP Silver here I come... :)

My husband and I are travelling to the US in a couple of weeks time and have tickets in economy on the Qantas A380. We're quietly hoping for one of those phone calls two days before the flight offering us a points upgrade as our fare type won't let us apply for it online.

Poppet, I presume from your original question that you have enough ff points - so I guess you have the corresponding status. I have found that when the website doesn't allow you to apply for an upgrade, that if you ring the Customer Service Centre then they will put through the request. Of course, you won't know until the night before or the morning of your flight if your upghrade has gone through.:o

I have called Customer service and received an upgrade on points as both a Plat and Gold flyer - so well worth the opportunity!

How will you know?

I'll keep checking on the Online seat checking in Manage My Booking..
Last time I flew overseas with QF was able to get a bulkhead row 4 days out from departure.

JetLagged do you mean that you were able to request an upgrade with points from a 'restricted fare' booking (i.e. O,N,Q,E,X,Z or U class) by ringing QF? Was this under a promotion of some sort (like the one around June last year)?

No special promotion or anything - I couldn't do it online ('rstricted' fare) so rang them up and they put in the upgrade request over the phonbe. As I said, I did that when a Gold - and again as Platinum - have veen done it on a 2-4-1 fare - so surely worth a go!

Well its 4 days out and this morning I checked and was able to get bulkhead rows once again in front row of Y on both 747-400 and A330-300.
The middle seat next to me on the 747 is blocked which hopefully means noone will sit in the middle next to me, making for a comfortable flight.

Also on the A330-300 flight there were both seats available on the bulkhead, I selected one, then checked experflyer and now the one next to me automatically blocked :)

Mind you I am only a QP NB however this flight will make me a QP PS.. Happy happy! :)

Hi guys,

Any seat preference in Premium Economy (Z)?

The Mrs and I are on a 380 in December this year, Singapore to London (QF031). Have currently chosen 34A/B, which are green seats on seatguru.

Cheers,
Mat.

As a Bronze you managed to get row 23 bulkhead and the seat next to you blocked? Well this does not happen to most Platinums on international flights so you must be a very special Bronze....

I am Qantas Club Bronze, (soon to be Qantas Club Silver after this flight).

Maybe its because I always tend to book L class (Super saver) on my domestic flights? hence my spend is actually higher in general? whatever it is I am happy. I had 4 international QF sectors in November last year and same thing happened, was able to get bulkhead on 3 of the 4 sectors 4 days out from departure, and seat blocked next to me automatically each time, although for 1 sector stuck in row 28 next to other people.

No offence but if you are getting that type of treatment as a Bronze/Silver then you better go and buy lottery tickets.

Years ago as a Gold and later as a Platinum I had to book 3-6 months in advance to get row 23 bulkhead and I find it almost impossible that row 23 bulkhead would still be available 4 days before departure and also blocking seats. Have to be extremely light loads....

I finally have a chance to fly the big bird in June, SIN-LHR QF31. As I’m just a QP NB I don’t have the option to select seats now :( but hoping for somewhere in the middle (66 - 77) when I get the chance to select. That 71D looks very nice :p

I must be lucky.. I have attached screenshots from Expert flyer on 2 of the sectors.
As you can see I am in both 23A(A330) and 26A(747) and both seats in the rows were free, when I selected my seats and checked EF directly after changing seats, the seats next to me became blocked.

Also judging from Expert Flyer well over half the seats are already occupied.

I wouldn't have known about these seats becoming available if it wasn't for EF's great seat alert feature! :)

Rather than start another thread, I will just ask my question(s) here.

I have just booked flights 12 Feb 10 SYD-LAX QF 11 (A380) and 23 Feb 10 LAX-SYD QF12 (A380) all in Y (upgradeable though) :(

Firstly, we have been allocated 50 B/C over and 52 D/E back. The seats on the way back look ok but on the way over I am concerned about the proximity of the self service bar.

I am WP and she is SG so is it likely (like what has been posted on other threads) that we could be offered PE seats or is this on other aircraft/routes?

What is the trick when requesting an upgrade? Wait and see what is offered up until the request close period or get in early? What are our chances of getting the upgrade to J given our status ( I understand that there are many variables).

Cheers...
WB

WB, how did the trip go, did you receive the U/G?

cheers
