QF A380 back in service from January 11

To clarify - you were flying J?
If so, making the "bed" is something you do in J - which is put the thin topper on the seat.

F is when they make the bed for you, there's a few more components however.
It was very much an included J service for the FA to make your “bed” in J. Sometimes I saw this done before boarding out of LAX where they did it for the entire cabin.

I don’t recall a single flight before covid where I was left to fend for myself unless I elected to do so.

It’s all changed now obviously.

As above, often the crew ex BKK will ask whether you want your bed made prior to pushback or afterwards to maximise rest.

Never had to make a J bed myself.

I still don't quite understand those toppers. They provide the padding equivalent of putting a beach towel on the seat. The only reason I could they bother with the expense is it's actually to protect and prolong the life of the seat covering.

And to give the passenger a bit of ‘protection’ against the previous occupants of the seat :) At least it feels a bit cleaner to have a washed topper rather than have your face pressed against a grotty headrest!

Seat maps indicate that VH-OQD (refurbished) is due to operate the next few SYD-LAX A380 flights.

The seat map reverts to showing the old configuration from March 5 at this stage, but this could just be a placeholder.

I've been watching closely as travelling on it middish March.

Last week I cancelled my booking for Saturday on QF 11 along with my whole long weekend in the USA. I was on QF11 in U.

Pretty quickly I received an expert flyer alert that preallocated seat was vacant. :sigh:

Today I receiver further alerts, firstly one that 10 of the row 1 to 5 seats were now available to select and second that 14A was available. The latter meant a configuration change to non skybed which was confirmed shortly thereafter with an expert flyer configuration change alert.

Such is life.
