Does QF have any more A330-300s on order?

Do you think QF will replace the 767 on the PER-NRT route with a A330-300?

I suppose there isn't any other competition on that route for QF to worry about.

No, but they do have 6 x A330-200's arriving this year and next, in 36J & 201Y configuration. But probably for the India & China routes but maybe also something like you have mentioned.

I thought they were transferring 4 of the int 767's onto domestic duties sometime. Presumably something will be replacing those aircraft.

No more A330-300s on order. However, the QF Group does hold orders for 8 more A330-200s, being 2 for JQ to be delivered in the next few months, and 6 for QF mainline to be delivered in about 18 months time. The ones for QF mainline will initially be used to replace the A330-300s on BOM and PVG routes. However, there are also rumours of A330-200 being used for LAX ops (assume QF25/26 or QF175/176).

Unlikely. There are lots of other routes to get the A330-300s when the -200s are delivered, and I would not expect that to be a high priority route for the.

The ex-AO aircraft have been reconfigured to the standard domestic configuration, but can be used trans-Tasman as well. They needed more domestic widebody capacity when the A330-200s went to JQ.

Hold on a minute! I thought the 330-200s couldn't accommodate the skybeds? Or are the new ones going to be fitted with strengthened floors from delivery? I thought that Qf would either have given them to Deathstar or unloaded them...

It says a lot when Deathstar gets the 787s in preference to the main QF fleet....

I believe the new ones have a stronger floor.

As for the ones in the JQ fleet, they are still discussing options about what to do with them after JQ takes delivery of the 787's. One option is for them to go to Jetstar Asia.

I really hope QF doesn't take away the skybed A330-300s from the PER-SIN route.. i fear they might because the Biz class seems to be empty.

I have always been able to get upgraded; 4 from 4 attempts when I was SG.

Actually, I have never been denied an upgrade.. even got F from SIN to SYD as a SG.

Yes, the whole purpose of the new A330-200 order was to get the strengthened floor and high gross weight so they can operate with Skybeds and longer flights than the A330-300 or the JQ A330-200s.

I believe 2 of the QF A332's are due around December/January.

This allows for the extra PVG services (MEL). I would also presume BOM will get an A332 quickly also as the DRW stop is no longe rbookable from January.

That would mean 2 x A333's will be looking for homes on 767 routes, so perhaps SYD-HKG will be in line before PER to get them.

Also note the 6 new ones should have 36 J seats and not the normal 30 J seats. :) and only 201Y down from 267.

Pardon my ingnorance NM because I'm not positive but I though the loadings of QF175 was quite high?

What's the difference with A330-300 and A330-200 at the moment?

I know that the A330-300 has sky beds and PTV for economy, and the J*/ex QF domestic A330-200 don't.

Are they essentially the same aircraft? ie wingspan, length etc?

The -200 has a significantly longer range than the -300 (but off the rack, weaker floors)

There is also a problem (unexpected on purchase), that the 330's take a significantly longer time to refuel than your vanilla 763's.

The weaker floor problem preventing SkyBeds has been referred to. The fuelling problem may have been fixed in newer deliveries.

I think that may well be correct. It was probably 18 months from when they were ordered.

Perhaps, but at the moment the PER-HKG route is operated, as far as I can tell, by an aircraft that goes SYD-HKG-PER-HKG-SYD.

Don't know. Perhaps it varies. But the rumour is that QF is planning some A330-200 ops to LAX and AKL and BNE are the only points that would fit the range capability of the A330-200. Or perhaps they may re-introduce CNS-LAX services?

7 A330-200s are due for delivery over the next year and a half. JQi has already taken delivery of VH-EBE (first flight was MEL-SYD-SGN not too long ago IIRC) and -EBF is due within 1.5 months. QF will take delivery of the new 332s from December this year, through to December 2008. Seeing as the majority of the mainline fleet is receiving new fabrics, curtains and carpets (and new seats on certain aircraft), I think these 332s will be delivered with the new Skybed product and refreshed economy cabin (makes sense to do this!)

From what I can see, QF123 SYD-DRW ceases on 30 JAN, so I expect Mumbai services to go nonstop on 1 FEB. IIRC, QF was due to update some aspects of the NW07/08 schedules later this week, or early next, so look out for some changes to Mumbai services on QF.com schedules.

With regards to where the first 332 will go from JAN, I am guessing it will first be Beijing then Mumbai then Shanghai (MEL/SYD-PVG). IMO, QF will first make all QF187/188 services 333 operated before placing them on BNE/PER-HKG and PER-NRT.

QF175/176 won't be seeing A330-200s (loads are solid all year round and chockers during school holidays), but there is still a chance QF25/26 will. IIRC, eoinnz posted some problems (on another forum) about crew rest concerns and I hear that there may be union issues also. Something to watch, but don't be surprised if it doesn't eventuate.

With regards to PER-SIN services, they will remain 333 for some time to come. I remember getting an update from QF though that a few 333 flights (SIN/NRT etc) would be cancelled during SEP, so don't be alarmed, it's probably due to maintenance or something.

CNS-LAX is something that JQi will look at with 787s I'm sure.. be a great route for them!

Hope that helps :)

Rgds
