Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

Perhaps the free renewals are coming to an end? I've used my benefits a tiny bit but never credited anything to them, now I see to get a soft landing one needs to earn or redeem something:

What are the cheapest and easiest ways to satisfy this?
We all were given 1,000 Avios (well I was anyway)
I tried to use these for Al Maha Services at Doha airport on a reward flight with them but couldn't use them
You had to pay for the whole service with Avios or cash only.
How do you spend 1,000 Avios?

Just noticed those Avios were gifted to me in June 2022 so will that count as activity within the last 24 months?

If you have a car hire coming up you could credit there?

I thought it was discussed upthread that status match status doesn't get a soft landing. I also "earned" 3,000 in June/July 2022 somehow so hopefully they'll count towards a soft landing if it happens.

Didn't realise until I read this that I needed some activity to fall to the tier below. It looks like you can buy a single Qpoint for 25 USD which I think would satisfy the criteria.
If this will work that is definitely what I will be doing

Sad, looks like no more free extension.

Any reason to go for soft landing into QR Gold if I am already QF Gold? I can credit a domestic QF flight to QR but not sure the benefit of doing so as a QF Gold.

Domestic QF flights don't earn I'm afraid
QR gold may have better access to Avios award inventory, I'm not sure
I suppose there is a possibility of a future status match to another airline via QR where QF is not an eligible option
Not sure of the QR rules but QF will only give you the OW extra status baggage if you credit that flight to the status-holding program (though suspect you're not planning to earn QR status in the next year)

the QF staff have generally been happy to switch the number from QR to QF and override it in the system so you can earn points into QF. It's how I've used my QR status the whole time, just did this last Wednesday - though after seeing this thread update I wish I'd left it with QR - now i'll have to buy a Q-Point and hope that works for the soft landing.

I can't find any so I'm assuming that Qatar doesn't do any internal European flights

Or does anyone know if I can do a code share on BA and credit to QR

I earned Q points and Avois from UK-Europe BA flights last year.

Has anyone confirmed that this will work?
no, I think unfortunately the only confirmation would come on the 1st April - "April Fools" :-/

For 25USD, I think it's worth the punt as I don't have any oneworld flights till then where I could accumulate. The description says "but you've collected or spent Avios or purchased Qpoints at least once in the past 24 months** – your tier will move to the tier status below, e.g. if you are currently Platinum you will become Gold."

(The asterisks relate to only being able to purchase QPoints once in any 36 month period)

Well I have purchased 1 Q point
If anybody thinks this will not enable soft landing speak now or forever hold your peace 😂
