QantasAMEX: $0 Annual Card Fee, 5000 points, $50 on Qantas Services

I just had to renew my QC so used the card and will be interesting to see if that falls into the Qantas spend category or not.

Otherwise, am really happy with the card!

Does buying a hat (A$15) count as a Qantas Service?
Could I get the $50 credit by buying online?
What is the cheapest way to get a Qantas Service??

Can i pay for the carbon tax with my amex and then would this be regarded as a qantas service

You'll see a link earlier in the thread (at the top of this page of the thread) - there's a discussion of it at the end of it - basically, no - it doesn't appear on the QANTAS merchant account.

I gather from reading a lot of previous Amex deal threads that many people grab the deal, get their 20k or 40k points then cancel the card. Is that potentially a bad move for somebody like me who's looking to get a home loan in the near future?

In my vast experience of playing around with home loan calculators have less credit cards/credit limits is always a good thing.

I always assumed that credit rating was about track record to either save or pay off debts.

Fwiw I had to pay QF ~SGD$75 fee for needing to change a flight booking.

It got billed in AUD and processed by 'Qantas Airways Mascot' and hence qualified as a Qantas service.

I've had my first bill for this card, but no sign of the bonus 5000 points - just has the points based on purchases.

Anyone else had this happen too? Am I missing something?

I haven't got my bonus points either but my $50 credit appeared for the Qantas Club renewal. :)

Normally with any of these bonus points they take a while to come through - I think it took about 3 months on my ANZ card.

I applied online 3 weeks ago, got a call 2 weeks ago to confirm everything and got the card last week. Then I spend $30 on the card, went online to check the balance today and saw the 5,000 pt already credited to my account. May be you can check online and see. If not, call the CS and ask them to double check. I still remember that I asked the CS on the phone and he said that the bonus 5,000pt should come up automatically a few days after the first card spend.:D

Hmmm, I recently got the $50 credit very shortly after a Qantas charge but still no sign of the 5000 points despite first spend being 6+ weeks ago. Looks like I need to give them a call. :(

will getting more than 1 amex reduce your chance of getting annual fee waived? I already have the qantas one.

OK so I got around to calling Amex today to chase up my missing 5000 points and am VERY disappointed with the service I got. 3 people - a customer service rep, their manager, and the complaints rep - all fed me the same information, and all could not back it up.

The customer service rep advised that it takes 4-6 weeks for the bonus points to be applied, and that I should look out in the next statement, making it 3+ months since my first spend. She then tried to say that my card was not activated!! What da?! She did who knows what and then said it had been activated.

Not confident with her I asked to speak to her manager. He apologised about the activation comment, then proceeded to tell me the same 4-6 week claim, saying "that's how it usually works" and "I'd hope you'd see them on the next statement". Not particularly confidence buillding. I pointed him to the website that said it happens after your "first spend", advised that I got the $50 credit within 2 days of meeting the criteria, and asked him to point me to the terms&conditions indicating the 4-6 week wait. He couldn't.

I then decided to complain, as I felt no confidence in either member. Calling the complaints line I eventually got the same message - 4-6 weeks and "we can't tell you when it will happen". Again no proof could be given. The result was to log a case with the Maximizer Rewards team (whom she assures me looks after this card, even though it's direct to Qantas) to follow it through.

So overall I'm left feeling that Amex have no clue.

Did everyone get their 5000 points immediately? Is anyone else in the same boat as me?

On a side note, handy to see some Amex URLs with quantas in them - good one!

I saw my 5000 points posted to my Amex card account the day after my spend (which coincidentally was with Qantas). The points were not transferred to my Qantas account until the end of that billing cycle. And that is how it works - points transferred to Qantas once a month at the end of the billing cycle.

It has been 2 months since I had my first transaction and no 5000 points. But like others, I had already received my $50 Qantas credit. I rang them on Friday and the guy was great - just checked my details, checked my points history to double check that I hadn't received them. He was really nice!

I was put on hold for 30 seconds while he used the system, then came back on to let me know points are credited, no worries. All over and done within 3 minutes.

I checked today and the points are there.

GSTOK call them back on the 1300 and play totally dumb.

"Oh hi there! I am just ringing because I was checking my statements and realised for some reason that my 5,000 points haven't gone through. I thought "That's funny!" because my $50 qantas refund went through with no hassles... I just wanted to make sure there was no problem at my end because the points were meant to appear after the first spend..."

Always works for me ;)

Thanks all.

I've checked the account online so know the 5000 points aren't posted there. And I've had at 2 statements now.

If I was actually paying for this card it'd be closed by now.... I'm not desperately needing the points so will hang out til the next statement. Then I'll get angry... ;)

Guys,

Does anyone know if this QF Amex $0 Annual Fee card is still available for new Amex customers?

I just got this card about a month ago but now I see on the website that it says it is $149 p.a. I was lucky enough to get on the $0 fee.

They have changed how the 5000 point bonus works as well.
Now, on your first spend you get 2,500 points and on your first qantas spend you get 2,500 points.

Phoned today and had my annual fee waived for the second year.
Well worth the 10 mins it took. :D :D :D

Thanks everyone
