Have no problems getting my 12hrs access to pressreader, but the speed of the wifi in the Brisbane lounge is
woeful. Dont reckon any newspapers or magazines I have selected will be downloaded anytime soon.

Dear ksthommo,

PressReader servers experienced some download issues on Wednesday and Thursday which can explain why download times were pretty long.
These download issues were resolved today.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

If it happens again, please click on Main menu icona nd then Settings. You can 'Send Us Feedback'.
We monitor these requests and we can contact directly PressReader Hotspots (Brisbane lounge for example) and identify the issue.

We are implementing a new feature in PressReader which will allow you to start reading your newspapers and magazines while it is downloading.
Stay tune for future updates for PressReader application.

Regards,

Yannick

Hi Yannick,
No problems downloading using my phone data. Slow speed of Brisbane Qantas Club WiFi is the problem.

ksthommo

The app and free mags remain very temperamental for me. Pretty much the only place I can get it to work is the SYD F lounge! Even there the lounge attendants noted that there seemed to be many people experiencing difficulty.

Is it working well for others or have people given up?

Here's a few tips from my experience of using PressReader in case it helps someone:

PressReader is ideal for the iPad Pro. I wouldn't even try to use it on an iPhone to read a newspaper. I've only downloaded the one version and it works perfectly on my iPad Pro, and there's no x1 or x2 option.

Whilst Qantas gives us 12 hrs free access prior to a flight, there's a much better option. No, it's not paying the monthly US$25 subscription fee to PressReader. Many libraries and hotels throughout the world give free access to PressReader. The City of Sydney libraries give 7 days of access, and you don't need to live in the area or have a library membership. I just walk in, or go near the library after hours, connect to the unrestricted wifi, run the PressReader app and I get 7 days access which I can then use from home. The PressReader app has a Hotspot Map available to find free hotspots.

One thing I don't like about PressReader is that all issues of a magazine are displayed in the one flat view, although a folder structure is available on the left side.

I also use the Zinio magazine app for collecting magazines. As an example, the City of Sydney library provides free access to its library members to selected magazines via Zinio, about 180 mags altogether, however you don't get access to the complete Zinio collection via this free service. I get an email when an issue is available to download via the Zinio app. Many other libraries also offer a similar service. But ensure you download the Zinio app, not the Zinio for Libraries app. Zinio stores previous editions of each mag in its own folder, a much neater arrangement than PressReader.

Agree that Zinio for mags is much neater. And also have a CoS subscription

Thanks for the suggestion. I use Zinio for a few paid subscriptions - can get some very good deals every now and then. PressReader is a backup option, but has some very interesting international mags and papers.

my last four flights in the couple of weeks before xmas all had issues with connecting. This was Sydney Business lounge x 2, Brisbane business lounge and Perth business lounge. The app would open and let me select magazines, but wouldn't register as a "free" download and each time it wanted me to pay for the magazine. Before this I haven't had any issues at all.

Ensure that you access the PressReader app via the option in the Qantas App. But the better option is to go to a local library that provides free access to PressReader.

Anyone experiencing issues with the Qantas app telling you that you have to download PressReader but you already have it? I've given up this morning after deleting the app, re-installing but the Qantas app is still telling me I have to download PressReader before I can use it for free.

I gave up using the 12 hours Qantas access to PressReader. I go to my local library in Sydney and get 7 days access from home. Most libraries in Newcastle are PressReader Hotspots. Have a look in the PressReader Menu for HotSpot Map.

Haven't used it for a while, but the integration is hit and miss. I find having press reader open before hittting the link helps the qantas app do the right thing

It's been much more stable for me this past week. But I agree having the reader open first gives me more success.

Yes, I've found the exact same problem. If anyone finds a fix to this I'd be keen to know. Technical support from Qantas or Pressreader seems to be nonexistent. Also, it's pretty inconvenient the main newspapers are no longer available.

Yes, very disappointed to find The Oz no longer available (News Corp's decision, apparently).

No good here either. Tried on both Iphone & Ipad, always get the download app screen. Tried restarting my phone, still no luck.

Yep this was an issue for me this weekend. Never had problems before.
