Qantas to put business and Economy fares on same page

But if only QF had the same screen option as VA shown above, then QF might also get additional revenue. We deserve to have all the options and be able to mix and match fares on outbound and inbound sectors.

I agree!

I despise using the VA website, but the concept of having all available classes on the one screen of search results is a good one.

I'm looking forward to the change.

While the VA website is not perfect, there are definitely some features which make it a bit more useful than QF. Apart the example I already provided, another useful feature is being able to jump to any day within a week, or even a week forward or backward without having to go back to the original search screen.

I don't necessarily want a "find the cheapest option" search, but sometimes I do have the flexibility around a day or two and this is a very handy feature.

You can do that on QF, too:

You just need to select 'flexible with dates' on your original search.

I thought you had to 'phone in to Q to book a mixed class fare anyway, couldn't do it on web site.

Oh happy days... not that I have got to the stage yet, but have noticed on occasion a fully flexible fare priced not far off a J fare domestically, and the idea that you couldn't see both fares at the same time has probably lead some to booking Y when they could really have enjoyed J.

Hear hear. A good move and credit where it's due to QF.

Now how about a check box on the search page that hides JQ fares in the QF search?

oh look up there, a little piggy flying past. :)

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

As an aside, there are some OTA's who will price and book one presumes a mixed fare itin, or even mixed fares/cabins in the one O&D market. To wit I happened to notice with some bemusement the other day via skyscanner, when searching BNE-MEL J fares, that the usual suspects for direct flights and so on came up, then a slightly (like +$150 or so) 1 stop fare came up via SYD. I thought that's curious and dug into it, it was via expedia, turns out it was BNE-SYD booking in I class (so in the J cabin) then SYD-MEL on QF metal (NOT JQ which is very common to see) in Q class (Y). That was a new one.

Please god do not refer anyone to the VA site for tips for anything apart from how not to build a website ;) :)

Yeah, we don't want to make it easy and convenient for Qantas customers to search for flights by considering workflows and human factors.

Just had a thought to myself, I wonder if the ever neglected Multi-city booking tool will allow multi-class bookings too?
or is that too much wishful thinking on my part ;)

OT-finally reached 2000 posts!

I don't think it does, because there is only one location to specify class, which applies to the whole search.

This now appears to be live for domestic flights.....

I'm loving the new view... reminds me of the old view before all the changes :p

It's especially useful to see how many points both business and economy is in both classic and ASA alongside how much it will cost purely in cash to make the most informed decision on a trip.

AirNZ has the same feature as VA and it works well. You can jump (with one click) from the date you initially selected to any date you want without re-entering the request. It works for both the forward and return sectors in the same booking. A definite time saving feature that QF should consider.

I noticed reward seat availability was shown for both classes but I wasn't logged in so didn't check the display in points. Sounds like it is much easier now to weigh up the best value option.

Indeed.

I considered an option BNE-CNS for later in the year where Y- was $149/no classic seats left/19,000 points ASA, Y $too much and J $too much/24,000 classic/75,000 ASA. All without having to re-do the search I know my options are either Y-, Y ASA or J classic. Everything else was just too much. Of course, what I'm actually doing is waiting for a sale for my dates now :p

Really wanted this a few hours ago for an international flight, business one way and economy the other. Ended up having to book two flights, with fares more expensive than return, plus two credit card fee's. Grrr.
