Qantas to No Longer offer a Points option for Loyalty Bonus

Like me! That’s why my overseas work travel for the next six months is on Star Alliance - mostly SQ. I’m not going to hit P1 this year and with 33,000 lifetime SCs I’m not going to make LTP. Where’s my incentive to fly QF for the rest of my year as a pretty frequent FF?

I guess the incentive is making use of the OWE benefits. Especially if flying Y.

Yeah I couldn't see it in the T&C's, but It's right at the top of the linked page in red:

This table is misleading. Those SCs are to attain each level first time. Renewal within your membership year is less, e.g. 1400 SC for Platinum first time, 1200 thereafter. But then you all know that! I am about to achieve my 1200 target three months ahead but I don't expect to get the next loyalty bonus because I did some major travelling on a partner airline and those SCs don't count towards the loyalty bonus. Last year I carried over 50 SCs, a most welcome start to my year.

The table also says 7000/14000/75000 lifetime status credits on Qantas and Jetstar (although this is then contradicted by including oneworld partners in the T&Cs).

Has the table always said that, or is this a sneaky preview about a potential change where only QF/JQ flights can count to lifetime status (similar to how VA requires most of the SCs earned for Forever Gold on their marketed flights?)

The table says that the platinum bonus is for 2400 Status credits, but saw on other places that it is 2400SC on Qantas/Jetstar flights. Which one is true. I am very close to 2400 for the year, but no where near it if just Qantas/Jetstar flights.

It’s 2400 QFg SCs.

It’s easier to get P1 and gift WP than to get this bonus to gift SG, except if you never earn any DSCs or other non-flying QF SCs.

Yep. 2400 without DSC’s is a slog.

I do find excluding Jetstar from the P1’s 2700 on QF marketed requirement to be a little odd l - surely they’d rather you fly on their metal than an AA codeshare?

But it's pretty rare it's a direct choice between those.

In the case of JQ, they'd rather you book the more expense QF flight.

In the case of codeshares, they'd rather you book the QF code than booking direct with AA.

The only problem is JQi only destinations like SGN. Well perhaps they'd rather you fly somewhere else!

Ha, funny you should say that - did MEL-SGN twice last year. Easier ways to earn SC but still not bad for the price.

That said, if you managed 3600 on JQ you’d have to be either extremely lucky or have the patience of a saint.

Qantas corporate closed my complaint case telling me to contact QFF.

I have taken both before, I believe the last time was points, and I haven’t got an email.

I am WP with over 2400 SCs and bookings next month that will get me to P1. I am definitely in the “SCs are useless to me” group.

That said I should get my next bonus a few days before this kicks in and I’m only due for one before after that - and next year they don’t count for P1s, so it’s not a hill I’ll die on.
Pretty sure the change to not count the bonus SCs towards P1 came in at the end of last year (2024). Horrible negatively intended, positively worded clause below:

If selected before 31 December 2024, Loyalty Bonus Status Credits do count towards reaching and keeping Platinum One status.

The JQi only list is growing now that QF no longer flies to ICN.

At least with that it’s feasible to fly QF to HND or HKG and connect with JL/CX.

SGN doesn’t really connect to any long haul QFi flights, except with a lot of backtracking.

What would be nice is being able to book JQ Business* with the QF code, especially given they are introducing points upgrades.

Either that, or some form of reconciliation with MH for specific routes…
