QANTAS to launch their own credit card in tie-up with Citibank

I signed up last night and added all of the requested forms. They then sent an email saying that will review and get back to me.
Tonight I logged in and the website is requesting I upload a 30 (or 60?) day or less letter proving my employment. My contract is years old and I've never been asked by a bank to provide this and I don't want to bother the HR department to write a letter for me. Usually all they need is several payslips!
IIRC, QM wanted: 2 payslips, passport, drivers licence and a power bill.

I gave them a call and they said the application was in progress and I should hear back soon. Hmmm...

I had same and was able to provide 3 months bank statement instead (as well as 2 payslips)

Out of interest, can existing Citibank Visa holders apply for this card?

I posted a question along those lines too, but I don't think anyone has responded, so I'm not sure if any members with an existing Citibank card have applied yet.

FWIW, Citibank generally does not have a restriction on the number of cards issued by Citibank that you can hold, but they have imposed restrictions such as only 1 new card every 6 months, and tended to look at credit limits across all cards held by an individual, meaning that it can sometimes be difficult or impossible to get a new card without cancelling an existing one - given that each card has its own minimum credit limit.

That said, I'm not sure if this ew QF card will be treated as a normal Citibank card with respect to these issues. Also, the good news is that the minimum credit limit with the QF card is low ($6k), so unless you are already close to the maximum overall limit that Citibank will grant you, you should be ok on that front. I'm going to give it a go once I cancel my ANZ Black anyway (probably next week), and I will report back. I currently hold the Citibank Signature and Prestige cards.

Did they ring you for those bank statements?
This is the longest I've ever waited for a credit card to be approved...

I thought you only applied on Monday night? Have you seriously never had to wait more than 1 working day to get a credit card approved before? If so, you've been very lucky!

As this card was just launched with much fanfare, it seems likely they will have a lot of applications to deal with at the moment. Plus it's Citibank, who are notoriously hopeless. My guess is that if people aren't automatically approved, it might take a while. As a point of reference, I've had Citibank applications take well over a week in the past, and it's not unusual for them to get in touch to ask for information that you have already provided. Extremely frustrating, but don't assume any of this means there is actually a problem with your application.

Citibank has no relevance to the customer. The customer is dealing with Qantas Money. This was already answered.

Just for clarification and not trying to take any posts out of context. As long as everyone is aware, Qantas Money is actually Citibank. This may not affect the number of cards that you hold with Citi, but you are dealing with their Call Centre(s).

I took the plunge and applied. Approved today, after a few phone calls, some from them, and others when I got back to them. During one, the Call Centre answered as "Virgin Money". I asked was this Citibank, and the answer was "Yes". So, yes, it's Citibank.

I have dealt with Citi before (two previous cards, one at a time, but none at the moment) and this has been no less painful. However, I was expecting this, so no biggie really.

When was that answered, and what is the source of that information? The Qantas Money website suggests otherwise:

[h=4]Important Information[/h]Citigroup Pty Limited ABN 88 004 325 080 AFSL No. 238 098 Australian credit licence 238098, is the Credit Provider and Issuer of the Qantas Premier credit card on behalf of Qantas Airways Limited ABN 16 009 661 901.

I agree that normal Citigroup policies/practices might not apply, hence I asked the question, but it seems hard to believe that the credit provider and issuer of the card has no relevance to the customer.

I'm no expert, but seems Qantas Money rules apply, but they are still policed by Citibank staff/call centre.

No question that the admin work is being done by Citibank staff, but I don't think it's even obvious that Qantas Money rules apply. Surely as the credit licence holder, Citigroup has legal responsibilities here that would extend to approval criteria etc?

answered earlier in this thread.
The customer is dealing with the Issuer not the credit provider in this case. customer should know who the credit provider is, but that has no relevance to the process of getting the card. Your question is about the process of applying for the card. i.e. number of Citibank applications, number of citibank cards, total citibank credit limit.
This is the same as for the Jetstar card that is backed by HSBC. If you tell someone that HSBC are the issuing bank they will stare at you blankly. The issuer is Jetstar.

Edit: Dealing with citibank call centre is also a separate issue.

In my case, some Citi practices certainly apply. Not from the financial aspect, but the Call Centre uses a script that I have heard numerous time before, with no logic/flexibility applied for any deviation on my part. This is not a criticism of the agents, and Citi is not alone here.

The Call Centre is always polite and I can't criticise that aspect, but they do have a knack of 'getting under your skin'. Just breath and go along with it. Not that easy, though.

Ahem:

So what you have said above is not only without a source, it's completely incorrect.

I am an existing Citi visa holder - there has been no issue so far in being approved for this card

As the credit provider (and the AFSL license holder), Citi is calling the shots. They will have some marketing agreement with Qantas, but anything financial - limits, approval, cancellation etc. will be on Citi's terms. As such, any internal criteria about exposure to a customer (i.e. how much limit they will let you have) will be factored against all Citi issued credit - so not just the things you think, but anything else they have white labelled as well.

my Virgin Money (also Citibank) application took > 1 week to approve last month, for no apparent reason other than 'they were busy'. I also had to provide more docs than for any other application ie 2 months of payslips rather than 2 slips. Can't see the point of >1 when they include my YTD figures... no wonder they're busy reading pointless docs!

Might stick to my plan of HSBC month because in addition to the Virgin card I'm also holding the Citibank signature. The low-ish fee is tempting though!

Maybe I have just been lucky? In the past HSBC and Amex have approved me straight away and ANZ and NAB have all approved me within 24hrs.
QM rang me this morning to tell me that they've received everything and they'll get back to me soon. It's unfortunate as I have a few large spends due early next week and it seems that I won't get the card until after then... :(
