I just did a search MEL-LAX for random dates in November (8th-21st) and got $7492 on QF 93/4.

If you thought it was 3-4k SYD-NAN on top of the 4.8k for NAN-LAX, and thought this ($7.8-8.8k) was not a bad result, how much were the Qantas flights on the days you searched ?

I thought standard pricing for MEL-LAX return in J was ~$7.5k ?

I think it was ~$18k - $19k return for 2 PAX when I looked. The 3 - 4 was for 2 x PAX return in my calcs.

No, the Fiji option is circa $8k all up for two passengers, those screen shots clearly show its for 2 pax!

Well huys, the stars aligned and I'm travelling FJ all the way for $5k. a Justifiable difference to PE on QF for work, and enough extra SC's to motivate me to do it.

Given I have booked with FJ directly, what lounge access do I have en-route? I believe it is QF in Syd, and FJ lounge in Nadi but what about LA?

Ah the FJ brought back memories to a time when I had a black one, put twin carbies on it, gee I'm old.

I would still use JAL SYD-NRT-USA rather than QF as although the SYD-NRT is with the old regional J seats it is a daylight flight so not as much problem.on the longer overnight sector you get longhaul J which I prefer to QF.
But having tried the new regional J on a CX A330 I would use them in preference if it was the new seating.Really showed up the QF A330s on the Asian runs.In fact I am figuring out ways not to use QF coming back from BKK in the future.

They used older 747's, Fiji Air have one or two brand new Airbus A330.

This is my post number 9.....trying to get to 10 so I can post a pic of the nice new FJ A330 J class cabin. Not quite lay flat, but very comfortable, and food is perhaps not so classy but very generous and satisfying.
