Hi Guys,

I am looking at a trip to Syd - LAX in October and would prefer to fly with Qantas but on a quick search for flights, it appears there are a number of options, all *A that are close to half the price. I'm looknig at 2 PAX in Business.

It's a bit of a downer as I'd much prefer to keep all of my flying in the one place :s

Is this normal?

Yes, it is, unfortunately. QF are always more expensive unless they have a sale and, even then, they are still a bit more expensive than everyone else. However, their business class product is probably the best across the Pacific.

Look at JAL via Tokyo. Normally $2K less than QF in J, great product and you can skip LAX as they fly into various other US ports.

The sale prices are very competitive. So it depends if you are brave enough to wait for one :). I've done the trip several times in business and a couple in first. The Qantas product is fantastic. I've nothing to compare though. Good luck

Yes and I think its partly because no other airlines that fly the shortest route (direct via the pacific) are of the same quality as Qantas.
This lack of quality competition explains why QF in F is often cheaper MEL-LHR compared to MEL-LAX, despite it being a considerably longer flight.

Thanks Guys.I am spewing I missed the companion sale as there are 2 of us going. If the JAL product is OK I might look at that option.

Do JAL have flat J beds?

If its important I'd be checking it out before booking.

CX is also worth a look.....nice stop over in HKG for nix:cool:

I really get confused about the cost of business seats from PER to just about anywhere is Asia. We can fly to LAX for about the same price but it is a fraction of the air miles. Or we can fly to NZ or just about anywhere in the Pacific from PER for a fraction of the cost of going to Singapore.

Yes they do. Great hard product.

The recent TR from drron wasn't very complimentary of the J seats SYD-NRT flight.

Are they in the middle of rolling out a new J cabin?

Or look at FJ booked as two separate tickets, on Mondays it's the A330.

So that's $4.5K for both, then you just need to get to NAN!

7,645.00 FJD = 4,480.23 AUD
Fijian Dollar ↔ Australian Dollar
1 FJD = 0.586034 AUD 1 AUD = 1.70638 FJD

And it is only 3 - 4k to ge to Fiji in Bus I think. Not a bad result. I'm actually looking to take a customer so the offer of a stop in Fiji may be very appealing!

Another option is a 1W "Circle Pacific" fare. Qantas doesn't advertise it much, but its on the 1W web page. You do a loop say, SYD-LAX (QF) -NRT/HKG(JA) - SYD (QF), (or the other way round) with overnight in Asia (and Nth America of course) and its often (but not always) considerably cheaper than QF direct to LAX and back. You can get several Nth American cities on it.

Nice little earner SC wise as well.

Thanks Markis, looks like a good option. Do you earn SC on FJ Biz Special fares?

Sure do as its often Z class, book the QF code out of SYD if your WP to get F lounge access and have a look at booking NAN SYD as a separate ticket, as ex NAN to SYD is $640 odd in J

Anyone know if any QF sales to the Americas (and Asia whilst we're at it:cool:) are coming up soon?

Just got my old crystal ball out of the former chook shed, blew off the dust, gave it a real good rub, but alas it didn't work, so sorry, like 99% of us, I have no idea.

If you thought it was 3-4k SYD-NAN on top of the 4.8k for NAN-LAX, and thought this ($7.8-8.8k) was not a bad result, how much were the Qantas flights on the days you searched ?

I thought standard pricing for MEL-LAX return in J was ~$7.5k ?
