Qantas to debut new uniforms in 2027

Why didn’t they order a 737 replacement a decade ago? Having a look at the fleet ages, I mean, even after a few dozen A321s are delivered, they still will be faced with dozens of 20-25yr old 737s

Because they consciously decided to age the fleet as part of their capital management strategy.

So whos expecting this to be delayed until 2030 (probably due to materials shortage and labour force difficulties).

Alternatively, Emirates randomly decide to update their uniforms, and then temporarily supply uniforms to Qantas staff whilst Qantas sets about (finally) redesigning and issuing their new look uniforms.

To be honest, the uniform is something they should be listening to staff on. They didn't last time, so I have little reason to expect they will this time.

The current pilot uniform is universally despised. People who took the time to attend the design meetings were uninvited if they didn't agree with the designer's direction. And after it was introduced, they asked for comment, and if you said what you thought, you got a call from HR (whom I took some delight in giving navigational directions to).

Basically, they didn't listen in the past, and they won't in the future. There is no pride in the current uniform. I managed to hand back most of mine, still in the wrapping, as I'd simply continued to wear as much of the old as I could, whilst refusing to ever wear that stupid cap or dustman's jacket. Or the 'wings'. I either wore the old ones, or navy ones, as took my fancy. Something that you had to work your guts out for, is not for some designer de jour, to play with.

Alan Joyce. He only bought new aircraft for his baby, and worked hard to kill off mainline.

No, it’s not universally “despised”. A lot of pilots, maybe not ones active on social media, preferred the more modern look of the new uniform. The old style was very clunky and outdated IMO. Certainly those of my generation weren’t too concerned about the “look”.

Now what most pilots did not like about the new uniform was the fact it was being worn by all members of the group, without any recognition of being employed by mainline, or a subsidiary. Some type of individual recognition (maybe a seperate set of wings for each subsidiary) would have sufficed here.
 
Just the typical new management tactic of changing the stationery. No doubt they put the option of rebranding the airline on the table, but were made aware that would've gone too far.
