I was looking at the current Qantas sale, SYD to LAX with a stop over on the way back via HNL. I called Qantas customer care to enquire about stopping over in Hawaii and was advised by an Ian that no stop overs are allowed on this route under this sale. I pointed out it is clearly a "Business Sale ticket" and the conditions clearly say stopover allowed, first one free. And I do know this route is classed as a stop over from previous holidays. He said there is no stopover allowed on this sale. If this is the case Qantas should change the sale conditions as its misleading and wrong. I am just wondering how this can be allowed when its within the terms of the ticket?

The agent is wrong about the stopover not being valid for a sale fare.

The pop up clearly shows those rules.

However, the sale fare's routing rules might not include HNL as a valid connecting point.

Here's one for a similar I class fare:

Thanks for the info. Do you think I would be safe to book the ticket SYD to LAX and then call Qantas for the stop over, or is it safer to book through an agent. I really don't want to book it without the stop over in Hawaii.

Going by the fare rules published, the ONLY stopovers posts valid for ex SYD bookings are in MEL or BNE.

I doubt you will be able to do what you are thinking with this fare.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I don't think what you want is possible as Hawaii is NOT a valid stopover on the SYD to LAX route.

It is most certainly possible on QF fares (but not all of them). They sell qf codeshare on AA from lax to hnl. Usually its not the ultra discount fares that allow it though. Its a popular option actually. .. lots of my clients want a Hawaii stop on the way home.

It looks like HNL is also part of the deal as a destination rather than a stopover when travelling to the West Coast as the fare rules under 'other information' in your OP make reference to being able to travel on QF3/QF4.

I would call up QF & ask them to price your itinerary as an open jaw (turnaround) itinerary eg SYD/LAX - HNL/SYD so you'd pay half the return business sale fare SYD/LAX & half the return business sale fare SYD/HNL. Given the choice I'd fly to LAX first then fly out of HNL as QF4 is a day flight so you're not trying to sleep on the sloped Dreamtime seats which would happen if you flew SYD/HNL.

If you have any QF frequent flyer points spare you could book an economy award ticket on AA LAX/HNL which IIRC is 25,000 points plus USD2.50 in taxes. I booked a LAX/OGG ticket once myself via the old website which was easy however with the 'new' website it may not be as easy to do.
