Qantas A321XLR Makes International Debut, And Travelers Won’t Be Happy

How could the airline in good conscious charge the same for a recliner Vs flat bed in J - overnight? He's spot on with the sentence after the graphic. Yes, if the pax keep paying for the cough international product, the airline will keep charging for it, and keep putting the aircraft on medium haul international routes.

There are plenty of QF lemmings happy to pay. and wouldn’t even consider cheaper and better options
The only thing that forced Qantas to go to Lay Flat seating on their Domestic A330's was VA's Coast to Coast service.

I'll see if I can dig up a photo of their 2010 short lived 2x3x2 38" pitch business seating.

I have flown on QF97 in J a few times since the current timetable was adopted late last year and it actually works quite well as a connection from MEL. However, i suspect it was relatively lightly patronized, especially in J, which may be why they it has been selected for this massive downgrade. No way on earth would I be interested in flying on one if these things for 7-8 hours.

I'm not sure people are aware yet. It takes a little bit of time for this sort of news to permeate.

If I'm not actively on here checking this sort of stuff, i might have missed it at first glance and only later when reading the details

I suspect you are on the money here.

The 20 seats will likely be filled by sale fares or FF bookings. Anyone paying full whack will likely be last minute..: and paying for the convenience and a seat to get them there as fast as possible.

Or if they have more time, they’ll fly PR.

Ill be honest BNE - MNL was a legitimate consideration for flying to HND connecting onto JL's MNL - HND flight.

Would've had to book this if i didn't discover that SYD-CTS was practically empty mid march onwards.

I can't find a photo, but here is a PDF seatmap for the 42 business seat Zone A cabin. (These days the 332 has 22 business seats in the same zone.)

This was bound to happen- I expected this as soon as it became clear that Qantas’ first batch of the A321neo would come with coughpy Domestic recliner seats only. Yet another reason to not waste money on a full fare Qantas international ticket ever…

Here they are:

Although the fabric was updated to grey later on, and then they also flew for a while with the middle seat in the centre blocked!

It was still very tight :(

Ah I missed this clearly but I guess that makes some sense and would free up a wide body for a higher yield market. PAL also flies an A321neo on the route so it's not like theres stiff competition, except PAL has 31 fewer seats on their jets...

And while you are flying in whY, normally the PR aircraft BNE (and PER) to/from MNL have lie flat beds in J.

I travelled from BKK to MNL on one and while annoying to have to step over the aisle seat passenger (2+2 config), it was otherwise an excellent experience.

I have no interest in travelling on a QFi A321 that lacks proper J lie flat seats.

Would you if they did?
Personally it depends on the price and route so who knows.
For example if CGK moved to the A321 lie flats I’d still fly QF if awards are available.
I wouldn’t fly QF to SIN ex ADL and yes it petty I know but QF abandoned us here so I would stick to the airlines that have stood by us

When QF is planning for 1/3 of its XLR fleet to be J lie flat, there is a good chance that any booking on a lie flat XLR can be easily subbed by a non lie flat XLR at the last minute.
Yep- and this has always been the issue with this configuration.

We all know Qantas only too well- I can fully imagine endless threads on here in, say, 15 years from now that try and discuss which routes might or might not get you a flat bed

Does QF fly ADL-CGK?

ADL-SIN has been bandied about as one of the contenders for A321XLR Lieflat. Depending on what they rollout, you could do worse.

Does QF fly ADL-CGK?
No but we regularly fly MEL/SYD-CGK with either GA or QF. I’d think that eventually QF put the A321 on those routes and with a lie flat product I’d choose them if awards are available.

Out of principle I won’t fly QF International out of ADL no matter the product. QF abandoned us and whilst SQ isn’t my favourite product both SQ and MH have provided a long time services to ADL so I would stick to them
