New safety video on the way using the Australian Olympic Bobsleigh Team....

Anybody noticed the fine print on the bottom of the Qantas homepage??

Increased capacity on these routes for these dates?? Possible 787 doing QF3/4 (although I note in the last few days an A333 did that return trip) and maybe A388's doing Santiago and Tokyo ??
Just the usual seasonal capacity increases that have to be approved...

AJ will be appointed to the head of the Public Service to "enhance" it into a LC PS

Borghetti returns!

I've been watching this thread for a while and I thought that someone would have said it by now it seems obvious! (Too me anyway)

Interesting idea - some people think the "post election" timing of the announcement may have political/government implications (i.e. industrial relations, or crew based in Dubai for example) in which case - if it is say a B717 announcement, why not announce it earlier? An alternative is that the campaign just floods the airwaves and media with politics so possibly big announcements just get delayed until after the election to get some clear air in the media.

Think of it this way - a perceived negative announcement such as all maintenence going overseas just becomes a political football with the ALP and Coalition arguing about wages and IR issues. Any fleet expansion/contraction or renewal to do with B787's, A350s or reconfig A330s is really non-political so would be the case of awaiting clear air for PR purposes.

A lot of different ideas up the thread so will be interesting to see what it is.

To say that a certain newspaper chain has not been bias today takes the cake. In one of their political stories, they did a story to see if you were
better off six years ago.. In the story they totally forget to mention the financial world crash.

In the conclusion part, they said yes we have grown somewhat over last six years, but it was not good enough and should have been faster.

Faster then what western economy I ask myself. No, not Britain, Not US, No France, Not Spain Not Greece Not Italy, hmmmmmm

I hate surprises - they are nearly always nasty.

Given that the announcement whatever it is will be after the election sounds like it is something that could provide political mileage to the pollies in the campaign so is being kept out.

Agree that it could be something that would be percieved as giving political mileage to some unspecified politicians.

What about some sort of spin-off or sale of physical assets (i.e. aircraft) to a new Qantas International Leasing/Holding company housed somewhere like Asia or the Middle East to get better tax treatment and depreciation? After all - leasing of aircraft already has its tax advantages over ownership so why not maximize the returns to shareholders?

Maybe the Liberal government has agreed to let them be purchased by Emirates.
