They announced a tourism deal with Tourism WA today. Could that be it? The fact that they are spending the money when they ignore WA for int. flights is beside the point.

Yes of course, the election of the new QF Board of Directors at the next AGM....now wouldn't any Federal govt want to have a say of some sort as to who those people would be!!!

Hopefully this is all about using the 787s to go to BER. If so, pleaaaase go via SIN. This would make sense wouldn't it after just upgrading the lounge and increasing capacity there? The hoards can still go on the A380 to LHR via DXB but everyone else can go to BER on the Dreamliner.

Qantas to review Avalon maintenance unit, more than 300 jobs threatened

MORE than 300 jobs at Qantas's heavy maintenance facilities in Avalon, Victoria, are under threat after the airline said it would review the operation's viability because of a "significantly reduced" workload.
The fate of 59 Qantas employees and 253 contractors is in the balance after the airline revealed it would have periods of up to three months each year where there would be no scheduled maintenance at the facility. The dead period is expected to expand to five months annually by 2014.-

Well I guess that probably it as not a good time to announce it in the middle of an election campaign.Especially now that they seem to be seriously lobbying the Government about VA.
