Hi guys

I’ve been a follower for a little while on these pages but this is my first post.

I’ve got a tricky status run challenge in that my membership year ends on July 31. I have 530pts, but I am still bronze because I’ve only flown 2 QF flight code segments in the year.

I am based in London and potentially going to Hong Kong on July 21/22 returning 27/28. Do you have any suggestions for how I can squeeze 2 QF legs in here? And do you think I can get those last 170pts cost effectively (will a points upgrade count for the extra status points?)? Would be very interested in your suggestions!!

I want to at least get to silver before I lose all of those points, but gold would be nice.

Thanks for your help!

Do you get to choose how you fly to HKG? If you fly LHR-DXB-SIN with QF flight # on the LHR-SIN this will give you the 2 missing QF segments and 110 SCs return. Then you can get the missing 60 SC with a cheap CX flights SIN-HKG. If you fly direct to HKG for LHR I'm sure other people here will suggest some Jetstar Asia flights combined with some cheap MH flights

HKG to SYD or MEL return will give you the extra 2 QF flights. In business class this will give 240 points, giving you gold.

Cheap options are unlikely in short time frame, but others may be able to help. Points upgrades do not count for status credits.

I was thinking JQ intra-Asia if you have the time would be the way to go, but not the most comfortable way. Going via DXB, while not direct, would also easily sort the issue.

Also, as above, a cheap QF flight to Australia return could also be the way. There's a sale on right now, probably a bit close to book in it, but the prices aren't too much higher. Perhaps HKD$3700 return to PER ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

Do you still earn the credits if you book the flight but don't actually get on board?

Then it begs the question am I actually better off just paying for lounge access etc rather than paying many more hundreds for a status run!

You earn (depending on the ticket) points and status credits for flying, a 'no show' = no points/status credits

No. But you do get the ~ if you take Jetstar qualifying flights out of HKG (JQ flights that earn SCs - you might need to add a value bundle). HKG-SIN on Jetstar Asia return?

Yes it looks like LHR-DXB-SIN return and then Jetstar HKG-SIN return is the best way to do it. A lot of travel though!

Sorry to hijack your thread veedz, but I have my own status credit question. I've just realised that I am 200 points shy of Gold. I am looking for the best suggestions to get the 200 status credits before they expire on 31 July. I work in Sydney and really only have the weekend of 20-21 July free to do any travelling. Help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

My favorite is SYD-BNE-TSV return in business, which gives 200 SCs. I am doing it myself in late July. Used to be able to book cheap Any Seat Awards. However as this has been removed from the Qantas website (see other thresds) you will have to try booking by phone. There are still business class classic awards available that weekend, so you should be able to get a cheap any seat award.

Good luck.
