That's specific to points though.

But that needs to be read in context... if you can't earn points, you can't earn ~.

But totally agree that QF could make it easier to understand if they wanted to. A separate clause could be added to the T&C's saying 'status credits are not earned on the following' and list jetstar starter fares, some EK fares and relevant partner airline fares.

Good result Qantas and persistence does often pay off

Great result ...

The response is indicitave of them having checked out the recordings.

What does the recording preamble state before calls? I'm sure "training" is mentioned.

It wasn't status credits; it was the qualifying number of QF flights that was the issue. There should be a clear clause that eligible flights are only those on QF or Jetstar that would earn points and SCs. That was the problem for the OP's aunt. They knew there would be no points or SCs and were fine with that. It was the fact that the flights were not counted a eligible QF ones that caused the grief.

Maybe I'm missing something... but that seems exactly the issue? If you can't earn points you can't earn status credits. And if you can't earn the latter it's not an eligible flight.

It's not particularly clear, but neither are the terms and conditions as a whole.

True, but there is no easy direct link to say that a flight must earn points and SCs in order to also count as one of the four flights. They could have been totally unrelated (as OPs aunt thought). Not disagreeing at all, only saying that not everyone will assume that points and SCs are necessary.

It is very badly written. Perhaps so badly that even reservations aren't across it, hence why QF has credited them for the OP. (Will be interesting to see if QF modifies the Ts & Cs after this).

In summary the Ts&Cs say you must take four eligible flights to gain or maintain status. An eligible flight is also defined as one that must earn points (and SCs). Otherwise you could take an award flight.

20.1.5 The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One status levels must include a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments where Qantas, QantasLink or a Jetstar Airline is the Marketing Carrier.

Eligible Flight is defined (very badly IMO):

9.3.1 Subject to the exclusions in clauses 9.3.2 and 9.4, Points for air travel may be earned only for paid travel or Points Plus Pay - Flights (excluding for the avoidance of doubt any Classic Flight Rewards) on regular scheduled flights where the Qantas flight number or the flight number of the applicable oneworld Alliance Airline or Airline Partner is shown on the Itinerary ('Eligible Flight').

I guess QF would argue that if points and SC earn is not required for status it would simply say 'four flight segments' rather than 'four Eligible Flight segments'.
