It’s a low flying season too. No school hols and cold weather in Northern Hemisphere, shorter days in Europe etc.

When I spoke to a FA some years ago about F upgrades to/from LHR he said the best time to go for those is Feb/Nov.

I ended up booking a Nov trip and got upgrades both ways as WP. I think one of my flights had the lightest plane load they had had all year.

I hope a DSC promo comes along. I will need to think what to book if it does.

Remember though that if they were targeting demand for low or shoulder season months like Feb they would have had a promo months ago - maybe 4-6 months. After all most leisure travel is booked in advance to take advantage of things like sales, package deals, whathave you. The close in purchases are most likely business related and would happen anyway. Obviously there are lots of last minute trips made for personal reasons like health or "hey let's go for the weekend" type things but in general, if they are seeking to stimulate demand they'd do it before the target period IMO.

If, however, they are looking to up short term cash flow then sure drop some promos For soft demand periods on specific routes the sales are probably the obvious first tool of choice as they can target those markets and periods.

Interesting for this, as I flew back on Feb 1st and my flight LHR-SIN was fully booked, from economy through to first, still got an upgrade from Business to First however as a WP

The first few days of Feb are usually packed to the rafters with families returning for the start of school term. After that the loads drop quite a bit.

SARS led to a pretty dramatic decline in airline passenger numbers in the Asia-Pacific region. I can't remember the precise effect on Qantas, but one has to wonder if the coronavirus has increased the chance of a global DSC offer to try to counteract the hit that Qantas is invariably going to take as a result of this latest outbreak.

Also I was flying on the old QF9/10 that went via DXB. There was more capacity to/from LHR back then.

QF not running a DSC promo for quite a while is saving me money.

*grumble grumble * I am so going to get a complex about not getting an offer
When there were heaps of bonus SC offers I was attaining Platinum easily without them.

Now bonus SCs offers have dried up and I find myself on 300 SCs with 4 months to go.

They've even stopped comping status and I was offered 3 comps when I didn't need them. :(

I’m back to SG and likely will drop back to PS if a DSC offer doesn’t come along.

I get the feeling with business class lounges being so full of late, many people have cashed in to keep or attain platinum status. With that in mind, a recalibrating from Qantas and not allowing every smart traveller to gain status easily may be a contributing factor to these lack of DSC. Time will tell.

Yes, something had to give, and that is there way of reducing the numbers, especially when there are delays due to weather, standing room only.

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has received a targeted 50% bonus credit offer this year (2020), or know of someone who has? I received one late last year and I've been trying to get myself re-targeted this year, but so far no luck!

Interesting. Do you remember what you did to trigger the targeted offer?

I triggered one in mid Jan - more details here:
