or how do we know this isn't part of the enhancement to upgrade right up till boarding? the OP did have an upgrade request in .... gate agent might not know any better and also assumed it was an op up ?

AFAIK airport staff inc gate agents dont have the power to op up.

That could be the case, however the lack of points being deducted on the day points to an op-up situation.

I've never had a flight with a upgrade award where points failed to be deducted around the same time the award was granted.

I've had an upgrade process at a lounge where points weren't deducted. However, points/SC were given according to the underlying fare.

I was booked on a paid fare for travel in Y, so I would have expected to receive Y points/SC's.

I didn't receive any confirmation of any sort about an upgrade (by SMS, or logging in to my booking online).

At the airport the girl processing my check in was having technical difficulties, but apparently she was new-- there was no mention of an upgrade, but my boarding pass came through as PE. I used to have status that lapsed when I changed jobs, but have now been travelling a bit more for work and racking up more points..

The travel was on March 10, and the zero points flight appeared on March 12 on my statement.

As of May 1, when I rang, no deduction had been made.

The girl said they were 'really behind' on some award deduction reports and were ringing people when deductions were made (this sounds like hot air to me...)

I definitely need to call back-- they've now deducted points as though I had upgraded to Business!

Oh Qantas, every time I try to like you again you stuff something up!

Many thanks, yes it was nice upgrade for 14 hour flight LAX-SYD in First class that too I am not very high "status" Qantas customer. Not sure why they have upgraded me ahead of others (ie Gold/Platinum members), I knew Y was oversold so this probably was an "operational upgrade" but it I feel I was lucky to get upgraded from J to F on first QF J flight :D

LAX-SYD is very commonly oversold, resulting in consistently frequent upgrades IME.

So what happened to your original 0 status credits and 0 points? I have just had exactly the same experience on 2 out of 3 international sectors (pe upgraded to j). The third sector upgrade request was processed normally. Not worried about the points so much, but would like the status credits from my original booking. Should I call and query it?

Absolutely call, it normally means your upgrade was not processed correctly.

Qantas CS agents are quite used to this support of issue.

I recently applied for an upgrade using points on a flight from SIN to SYD and did not receive any notification, but at the airport had been upgraded to Y+.

When the flight appeared on my activity report it ONLY showed Premium Economy SIN to SYD... and 0 0 0 for all values.

I don't want to complain, because no points were deducted... but I was keen to get those SC's... is it worth ringing to ask? Or is there a chance that at this stage (2 months later) they'd still deduct the points?

Would be curious to know anyone's experience on this.

Thanks!

I've never received additional status points when I've upgraded. Just for the fare I've paid. I've also been upgraded at the gate but no additional status points for those.

Someone on my Per-Sin flight requested the wrong leg to be upgraded, he got it but complained, they refunded his points and kept his upgrade: ( flight was totally full and no op up for me today: (

That's as it should be, bells' issue is a common one in that after an upgrade, points and Sc's for the flight posted as 0, not as per the original booking.

This exact situation happened to us LAX to SYD in October. Upgraded from J to F. Eventually after three or so phone calls the FF and SC were given, and they deducted the points for the upgrade. Took ages though!

I've been lucky enough to be upgraded several times while travelling - which I put down to either operational upgrades or the fact that I am a solo traveller and generally dress smart at the airport. Was upgraded to J and F on separate BA flights from LON - SFO and then upgraded to J on SYD - SFO with Qantas a couple of years back. Not bad considering on Qantas I am just bronze :)

Anyway I digress - in my experience the points and SC's have always been for the seat paid.
