Qantas Singapore Lounge [overcrowding]

Emirates has that policy with most (if not all) lounges outside of Dubai. They just open 3-4 hours prior flights. I would also presume that it’s around waste and staff cost

As do many carriers outside their hubs. For example - SQ in MEL close their lounge in between flights such that it is only open 3 hrs before flights depart (unless another flight is within that 3 hrs in which case it will be open 3 hrs before the earlier flight).

The main exception is where an operator contracts to other carriers (eg NZ lounge in MEL stays open until TG departs - Long after after the last NZ flight departs). IIRC EK generally doesn’t contract their lounge to other carriers.

Qantas has today announced a multi-million dollar investment in a new First Lounge and an expansion of the airline’s existing Business Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport.

With development due to start in April 2019, the Singapore First Lounge will offer seating for 240 customers, a luxurious design and premium a la carte dining with Asian-inspired menus.

The existing Business Lounge, which opened in 2013, will also be expanded. Combined, the First and Business Lounges will offer seating for more than 800 customers.

Set to open towards the end of 2019, the new First Lounge will be designed to suit the specific needs of transit travellers, with shower facilities, a coughtail bar, open kitchen and menu offerings reflecting the best of Singapore’s vibrant dining culture. It will join Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles as Qantas ports with a dedicated First Lounge.

Popped in to the SIN QP about 9:45pm the other night (in transit on EK404). Was pretty quiet and relaxed. Didn't see F Host at reception but once agent saw I was on EK F and I had my P1 card I was offered (but declined) the escort into the the lounge etc. I ended up just walking through, didn't see the usual staff so departed for the EK lounge (which was quite full but rapidly emptied).

I dropped in when flying BA F a few weeks ago and got nothing. It even took a bit of convincing to get a glass of champagne. :(

As my last few times through I've been flying on EK, I've made a point of having my P1 card out, as I am a mere WP on the BP. That, plus staff recognition, probably helps. But yep, I've been through before as a P1 and had nothing.

On Thursday I briefly visited the Singapore lounge for a shower and then found the lounge rapidly filling as all the QF flights arrived. Then went to the Emirates lounge where all was peace and calm and you can watch the planes, as well as a slightly shorter walk to the gate.

Was in the QF Singapore Lounge last night (15/11/18) and was told that as of 2 weeks back P1's are no longer to be escorted or have access to the reserved seating area. The reserved seating is now only for use by First Class passengers. The lounge attendant said that all would be better come the end of 2019 when the new QF First Class lounge would be up and running.

I didn't see Faith who would normally take care of us so walked out and made my way across to the Emirates Lounge. Way less people and way more space. At least until the end of 2019 I'm guessing the Emirates Lounge will get more use from the QF P1's.

Aside from the table service from Faith and others - no great loss. They don't police this area very well in my experience so non-status and non-F pax end up sitting there every time.

Seeing as there is a CL section, wouldn't it make sense that P1s get access to those seats?

After a couple of pit stops through SIN where I visited for a shower during QF1 transit as F/P1 I can tell you I've never had a 'special' welcome. I wouldn't have sat in the reserved area anyway as there simply wasn't time, especially if the aircraft parks at the end of D Pier. So this is no loss for me personally.

If I continue the QF odyssey for London flights then the location of the new F lounge is much more preferable.

I've only had C pier for QF 1/2/35/36 since the resumption of LHR via SIN.

Mostly C but got stuck with the very end of D in July. Wanted to duck in to the BA lounge as the England v Sweden Quarter Final World Cup game was playing but the lounge had closed by the time I got there. If the new QF F is near the C and D junction then that's a decent location.

QF has very economical flight timings by the look. I was stalking Flight radar for some reason and QF 35, 2, 51 and 71 were all circling off SIN so bound to land in a space of 5 mins. That's 2 A380s and 2 A330s descending on SIN with likely a significant number of connecting pax all descending onto the same lounge at the same time. I've not visited the SIN lounge since the route move but I can imagine it must resemble the MEL J lounge during refurb at peak times based on that schedule.
