Seat selection is free on domestic flights. I guess check in is the only free option on international flights.

Only for status holders though, or for everyone?
I didn’t think a Bronze member could select seats before either T-80 or T-24/OLCI.

Seat select is free for everyone on qantas domestic. On international if you pay you can select at any time.
If it’s free for everyone, how does Qantas ensure priority seat selection for status members. Even as a Gold I’d log in and find few seats occupied, unless those without status can only select from the very back of the bus at anytime?
I believe the seats available for selection for a Bronze are very limited. Something like the last few rows. I seem to recall someone had posted a seat map once.If it’s free for everyone, how does Qantas ensure priority seat selection for status members.
