Hi

I know you can pay to select a seat on Qantas, but is there a free option? I seem to recall you can select a seat for free 48hrs before departure?

Thanks

I thought it was at 24h when online check in opens...

Seat selection is free on domestic flights. I guess check in is the only free option on international flights.

Only for status holders though, or for everyone?

I didn’t think a Bronze member could select seats before either T-80 or T-24/OLCI.

I believe Qantas international OLCI opens 24 hours before the departure of the flight at which point in time one can select a seat.

Doesn't everyone though get a theoretical seat assigned at OLCI and you can try and improve seat allocation if there any vacant seats?

Seat select is free for everyone on qantas domestic. On international if you pay you can select at any time.

If it’s free for everyone, how does Qantas ensure priority seat selection for status members. Even as a Gold I’d log in and find few seats occupied, unless those without status can only select from the very back of the bus at anytime?

Before T-80 there are limits on where you can select depending on status. 737 = row 6-WP, 10-SG 12-PS or some thing like that.

I believe the seats available for selection for a Bronze are very limited. Something like the last few rows. I seem to recall someone had posted a seat map once.

When I was NB and paid for seat selection, the best I could get was 9C on a SYD-AKL service.

As per Qantas, seat selection is complimentary when:

  • You are travelling on any Qantas operated domestic service.
  • You are travelling internationally in First, Business or Premium Economy cabins.
  • You are a Platinum, Gold or Silver Frequent Flyer or equivalent oneworld Frequent Flyer.
  • You are on the same booking and travelling with any of the above mentioned travellers.

Check-In seat selection is free for all, from when check-in opens (T-24)

Prior to T-80 I can only get as far forward as row 19 on a 734.
