I still maintain that nothing has changed for Domestic Economy fares - as Serfty has suggested, Child Fare doesn't entail a discount domestically in economy.

P.s - Get of Red Roo's case.

I have been paying 75% for my daughter the last 3 years with 'flex savers' though no discount on 'red e deals'

This really grinds my gears this change.

I think its discrimination child doesn't weigh much nor have much luggage, eats very little, doesn't drink alcohol, not entitled to get acquire points. But has to pay full price.

......so there is marginly less fuel used (although that margin could be eaten up by unfavorable winds),

I don't see a child contributing much in the way of unfavourable winds, although one of my granddaughters could go close :)

I can still access it.

This article in The Oz The Australian quotes a QF spokes person confirming seniors discounts are gone too. Bewdy Alan.

Bit of a lack of acumen here on Qantas' part. If they delayed these announcements for 2 weeks (ie Budget night) - no-one would have noticed ;)

Seniors' discounts? Have I been missing out on something?

And "acumen" combined with "Qantas" is an oxymoron.:!:

Have just done a dummy booking MEL-PER in J 2 Adults and 2 Children and NO discount offered or applied for the Children. So yes looks like another excellent move by QF. :D

Maybe QF is hoping passengers with children migrate to VA and those who'd like child free flights might ditch VA??

Nice try, but as a VA WP I continue to urge all friends with children to fly QF because of the play areas they have scattered around some QPs :p.

Given fares are NOT charged by weight i am mystified as to why a child using a whole seat should get a discounted fare...

If the ailrine chooses to offer such things to entice parents to pick that airline... fine... but please don't try to argue that there is some entitlement to a discount!!!

Small adults don't get one (and I've seen plenty of 11 year old boys bigger than my female relatives!) nor do the very large pay extra... so please take such discounts as a bonus!

This might be good for some QFFers. Less children occupying J seats, more chance of an upgrade?

I don't think so. It's only Domestic fares. There aren't that many kids in J just now IME. I doubt having to pay 20% extra will put off the majority of parents prepared to shell out for J fares in the first place.

As a parent with kids that fly a little - I'm not that bothered with this loss. I can understand that others will have issues but things change. Maybe the change has come about because all new parents will soon get $$ for having babies ;)

I might be more engaged if QFi decided to follow suit. The youngest is about to turn 11....in another year I'll be even more - Meh!

I know it happens, but I have yet to actually be on a flight where there where kids in J. To put it bluntly there are just not that many families who can shell out $5000 just so their child can sit in J / have the points available, and those that can are typically not phased by an increase.

Traveling with a family is an expensive enough exercise. Even a discount Y trips starts to cost some serious $$$ (and it's serious $$$ on more than just the flights) once you throw in some ankle biters.

FWIW, back in the later 90's my wife and I did a 37500 point each business class around Australia award together - MEL-PER-BME-AYQ-ASP-CNS-BNE-MEL over three weeks. We were accompanied by 6yo mini serfty on a paid basis - her fare @50% was about $1900.

I agree with this. When buying seats for 5, its always been a red e-deal for my family. When the kids occupy a seat/get a meal/activity pack/get delivered to destination, I believe its reasonable to pay full fare.

Sorry to those want my kids on VA though. The whole QF experience from the kids area in lounge to inflight attention still gets my money. If only I could get their status points, I would justify buying 5 tickets somewhere to get WP status.
