I'm thinking of transferring from a CommBank VISA to the AMEX Qantas Rewards Maximiser card. The main attraction is the 1.5 points per dollar spent as it's only 0.5 points with the CommBank. Can anyone tell me if I keep my frequent flyer points? I would assume so as these have all been transferred out of the card already to the Qantas website. Are there any things to watch for? The annual fee is higher but that seems far outweighed by the extra points. Does the transfer kill the Commbank card or can I keep it for emergency use - e.g. a restaurant that doesn't accept AMEX?

Thank you,

RR

From memory, it is only an Amex Rewards Maximiser and not a Qantas Rewards Maximiser. If you have already transferred your points to your QF account then they stay there, and you have the option of transferring your amex points in lots of 2,000 should you wish to your QF account at any time and they take a couple of days to process. You can also transfer your amex points to a number of other ff programs such as Air New Zealand.

You should keep a visa for those times when Amex is not accepted, and if you are intending to transfer all your points to a QF account you might consider an ANZ visa as they transfer automatically at the end of the months when your account is paid. Alternatively, keep your Comm visa.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
