Qantas says it has released several thousand additional reward seats for travel in Dec-Jan, including in premium cabins. I just did a quick search and indeed saw seats available to places like Hong Kong and LAX, mostly in January.

Qantas has also launched a “12 Holidays of Christmas Sale” today, starting with fares to UK and Europe including Melbourne-London from $1249 return, Brisbane-Athens from $1492 return, and Sydney-Rome from $1531 return. Premium economy is also available.

Damn. I want flights for Dec 2019. Will be too late next year to book these in December.

I took it that the seats are for flights in Dec 18 and Jan 19 only, not the next 350(?) days.

Ah. Gotcha. As if you’d wait so late to book Christmas flights.
For some, they may need to travel at late notice.

I did see a member posting today regarding a $12,000 pp bookings. Having such a point option may have been beneficial.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Hardly seems worth it though for such specific cases.

They are trying to fill empty seats. Dressed up as a Christmas special. Don't think it's actually about people who need reward seats for Christmas. A bonus for those who may have been looking.

Some wait late for an impulsive trip or even business class sales like the one-way cheapie from SIN advertised recently.

Nothing wrong with using FF as a channel to fill otherwise empty seats. I always wait til last minute to book travel - very rarely do I pay full price as there is always one airline or one hotel that needs to sell their inventory.

Yes we cancelled an award flight to make use of the cheap business class flight (note it was an SQ standard award so high on the points usage)

Maybe it’s to celebrate the unusual novelty of paying some income tax ?

Happy Christmas Australia

Managed to book a J class award booking to NYC for the first time ever on bronze status, first time procrastination has paid off haha

Your first time posting since you joined as well... Welcome!

Thank you for your welcome. It's been awhile since I've flown overseas as we kind of overdid it in 2015 after selling my business. (I actually ran out of movies to watch on the inflight entertainment haha)

Have since un-retired myself since 2017 and am finally back to the point of needing to travel for business again :D

Glad I made a booking last night instead of waiting until the last day as the fare for the return leg went up today... Wonder what will be offered on Day 12 that will give people less than 24 hours to decide on booking?
