Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

Does Runway 27 not have an area under the approach path to watch? I recall about 20 years ago in my teenage years, you could drive off the side of the road and there was big areas off the side to watch.

Everyone seemed to be lined up for a Runway 34 arrival. Sure would suck to be down near the threshold.
Thats probably because most wide bodies this morning was landing on RWY34. SQ231 (a380 directly in front) landed that way. AIB35LR was also tracking for 34 and then suddenly it swung out at the and and came back in on 27.

No spare real estate on 27, freeways and big valleys

By design, the A351 is the “LR” variant. The “ULR” nomenclature is not an official Airbus variant. Currently, it’s unique to the QF aircraft, so not unreasonable to try and differentiate the two models.
Airbus say otherwise at World's longest-range aircraft, the Airbus A350-1000ULR takes to the skies:
The A350-1000ULR is the fourth passenger variant of the best-selling A350 Family, joining the A350-900, A350-900ULR and the A350-1000. Together, the aircraft have set new standards in long haul air travel, with a step-change reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions, and new levels of passenger comfort.

I concur ... :) NM is the only measure for anything AFF  .
I didn’t realise AFF was a hotspot for measuring moment of force? 🤔

The newton-metre; symbol N⋅m or N m is the unit of torque(also called moment of force) in the International System of Units (SI).

Or has something been lost in translation and NM is the unit of talk at an AFF function. 😛

On the actual topic, has QF ordered the A350-900 or A350-900ULR as their non PS aircraft? Or have they ordered A35K but not the special ULR variant for the others? It might seem they’re not sure themselves if they’ve invented a new LR model.

Edit: or I should just look at the thread title.
So they have A35KULR and A35K, or is that A351 not A35K??? Too confusing.

Operational reasons it may have been, but I bet nowhere today has QFi admitted that it's a long time before MEL will see nonstop flights from this airline to LHR and JFK.

Many readers/viewers of print/online media or TV news viewers will automatically believe 'goodness, there'll be nonstops to those two destinations from Melbourne Airport' when this clearly ain't so in 2027.

It's insulting to what will in a few short years be Australia's largest city by population to have had previous suggestions MEL will be 'on the map' when clearly it isn't at this stage, if ever. Air Sydney it is.

And it begs the question: the route is LHR-SYD so why not make that the first test, travelling at similar or identical times to what the timetable will be? QFi must have a very good idea if it is, for instance, to be a c.0800 hours LHR departure. Much less fuel would have been burnt on the ground in Toulouse prior to take off compared to waiting in a queue at Heathrow.

Talk about over-hyping and under delivering for Melbourne!
I agree, an utter insult to have the first flight to MEL when QF now have no intention to fly LHR routes from MEL.
I suspect the real reasn for flying to MEL is that it is closer to TLS than SYD.

Remember it's not a QF aircraft at this point. While QF has some input it's an Airbus aircraft and they are the ones who have to ensure it meets contracted parameters.

I wonder if they might try a TLS-AKL, or even a MAD-AKL (very close to Antipodean points)

Less than 2% distance wise. In the noise really given all the challenges flying anywhere at the moment.

Well to be fair QF9 is reinstated ex MEL is it not, from Oct? I have a feeling the A35K will appear on the QF9 but it'll be via PER, MEL-PER-LHR and no need to worry about the range restrictions with the 787-9 on the route (currently causing it to run via SIN)
