No doubt the work experience kids are working hard on a botched implementation ......
QF are still deciding and testing products from Amadeus (from a check-in perspective) that many other airlines have had for many many years.
They can't do anything right. It's tedious the amount of rubbish they have to go through to purchase or upgrade a product - no wonder why there are so many bloody managers in alphabet city.
I mean tell me Amadeus does NOT have a better way to do gift vouchers than the clunky sticky tape affair that QF have done for years?

Well that would kill the opportunity to use them with double yolks. If there are ever any more double yolk offers. No need for gift vouchers to go through the booking system at all - they should just be treated like any other payment method.
Off topic, but the benefit they had in Hong Kong was a very simple fare structure. You pay for each and every trip. And bus fares are calculated as if you take the bus to the end of the route regardless of how many stops you travel. So implementation was very simple.I am reminded somewhat of Melbourne's introduction of the myki smart card system. I mean, they could have used off the shelf software used in places like SIN, HKG, LHR etc relatively easily - and IIRC the company that built Octopus (HKG) is actually based in Melbourne??! but no, we had to complicate with customised requirements and create difficulty and now we have a far from perfect system waaaaaaaay over budget with so many complaints and only now are they getting around to talking about using contactless eg CC payments which has been in use in London for years (and isn't Sydney bringing it in?)
Agree vendors like Amadeus, SABRE etc have products available to enable things like bundling of services and things like Basic Economy type fare (which you know QF is going to bring in at some point) plus unbundling of other products like Business Class (think EK) and so on... but seems to always be a struggle with the way QF does things.

There were no changes to the HK fare structure due to octopus card. Changing fares is always politically fraught.Could have simplified the fare structure too in Melbourne when myki started.
Agree on London - we just had 10 days there and the CCs worked well there on bus, train and tube. Not cheap, but worked every time, and their public transport network covers all areas.yes I do understand that Melbourne's fare structures of zones and passes OR money make it so much more complex.
London decided on an interesting "solution" to this - keep the daily/weekly/monthly etc travel passes as paper tickets and PAYG is on oyster (or now contactless CC's) and they have a VERY complex Zonal system across multiple modes of transport and it works.
I do understand Melbourne made things far more difficult (and I live here!)
but, getting back on topic, my point was more that QF does seem to be victim in a way of trying to customise things to the point where implmentation becomes messy - and yet so many other airlines using products from the GDS vendors seem to be able to do these things so much better without the hassles so many of us experience on a regula basis (even if some of them do have desireable side effects at times...)
