Qantas Platinum One experiences?

I'm not even close to attaining P1, but if there was some carrot like this it would be tempting.
From all accounts it doesn't sound worthwhile to go out of the way for P1 with personal spend.

If you’re smart about it, go for P1 every second year, it’s not much more than maintaining WP. And you can gift WP.

I mostly fly across the Pacific and award releases and upgrades are much easier on these routes. If you’re mostly a European traveller it’s much less valuable.

I hadn't considered that, maybe something for next membership year, gifting WP and soft falling to WP the year after.

And if you already have LTG roughly every 3 years of P1 you’d get a banked year of Platinum to be able to use as well. Sure using the banked year would slow progress to LTP, but that’s out of reach even for most P1 travellers anyway.

Agree with the strategy. But 3600SC to attain P1 is substantially more than the 1200-1400SC to retain WP, unless I’m misinterpreting. YMMV.

You do it every second year, which means the equivalent of 1800/year (but yes you do have to get them all in one year)
WP is now 1400 per year.

It takes a bit of strategy, but a good DONE4 with DSC one year and flying mostly rewards / OWAs on your off year will do it.

Has anyone turned on the VIP call before international flights option.

It seems rather indulgent. But I'm interested in the idea that the VIP can confirm "eligible VIP service requests".

Personally, I'm not sure what I would even request. But I'd be interested to find out.

If you are referring to the 'contact prior to departure' option, I have this on. All it has been for me is an email 48 hours before departure of the first international flight. Just gives a summary of the flight, notes the VIP team is monitoring it and says "everything is in order". (I guess there may be some instances where they know 48 hours out there is a problem).

The email doesn't offer any special services (such as a spa booking) and I doubt this is the vehicle for any such request (which was an option years ago, but no more). I have seen the email include notes such as linked bookings or requests for mobility assistance for someone in the travelling party.

I may be missing something, but just feels like an auto-generated email given it comes almost exactly 48 hours before departure from anywhere in the world, and has the same lines.

Thanks. Helpful info. I would be embarrassed to get an actual phone call all the time. (8 international trips this year)
I get emails at about 48 hours and this option isn't turned on.

Soon, I'll be taking my first QF flight since becoming a P1 (my new membership year occurred in-between). I'll let you know if I receive any acknowledgement.
It will be a flight back to Australia (going over with JQ).

Had an interesting experience last week on QF2 SIN-SYD. Booked in Y and selected 49C 6 weeks out, 49B was vacant and 49A taken up till the time I checked in about 12 hrs out. Had requested a pts upgd to J and Y+ (and the gate option) but nothing came through despite 6 seats still avail for sale in Y+ (zero in J and F) with a few hours to takeoff. Got the txt saying J upgd unsuccessful but the app then showed an upgd to Y+ as being unavailable as there can only be one upgd request per flight - this was weird as I was sure that in the past you could still be eligible for Y+ if J was full.

Checked in on the app and my seat changed to 49A which baffled me as there could be no operational reasons for such a reassignment given it was a full flight, it wasnt a bulkhead or exit row seat and there was no middle row in 49. Seems like they gave my aisle seat to someone else and just shafted me to the window in the same row?! which I take great pains to avoid in Y when its a row of 3, and by then the entire plane was full. I know seat reassignments can happen but it would be to a diff row and I would have thought as P1 you would be one fo the last to get moved.

Rock up to the airport to ask what happened and SATS contractors have no idea, there was a QF rep at the airport who was very polite and friendly but could offer no explaination why I was moved. I enquired if I was still in the running for a pts upgrd to Y+ despite what my app stated and there were 6 avail seats, was informed that there were zero seats for pts upgd (even up to the point of departure) and that all 6 seats were only for revenue upgrades as theyre in diff invetories, and this is with less than 2 hrs to go. Coughed up the SGD$700 for the upgrade, two people in front of me had beeps at the gate and upon boarding find that the cabin is completely full, so either 5 other people paid up or they did do pts or op upgrades despite what I was told. Either way seems like QF1/2 isnt a great route to play the pts upgd lottery lol but at least you can buy an upgd at a somewhat reasonable price with priority.

On a side note a pts updg to J SYD-BKK on QF23 came thorugh 7 days out.
