I'm not even close to attaining P1, but if there was some carrot like this it would be tempting.
From all accounts it doesn't sound worthwhile to go out of the way for P1 with personal spend.

If you’re smart about it, go for P1 every second year, it’s not much more than maintaining WP. And you can gift WP.

I mostly fly across the Pacific and award releases and upgrades are much easier on these routes. If you’re mostly a European traveller it’s much less valuable.

I hadn't considered that, maybe something for next membership year, gifting WP and soft falling to WP the year after.

And if you already have LTG roughly every 3 years of P1 you’d get a banked year of Platinum to be able to use as well. Sure using the banked year would slow progress to LTP, but that’s out of reach even for most P1 travellers anyway.

Agree with the strategy. But 3600SC to attain P1 is substantially more than the 1200-1400SC to retain WP, unless I’m misinterpreting. YMMV.

You do it every second year, which means the equivalent of 1800/year (but yes you do have to get them all in one year)
WP is now 1400 per year.

It takes a bit of strategy, but a good DONE4 with DSC one year and flying mostly rewards / OWAs on your off year will do it.
