To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Another day, another delay, QF35 to SIN delayed by 2 hours, no particular reason just late in from Sydney…. F lounge totally packed, but F team got me a spa spot 😀 - small mercies …. In the meantime I guess light lunch in the lounge - certainly better than Neil’s attempts at a meal on the A330.

Earned 2800 status credits in 7 months. However changed to Singapore Airlines for international travel because qantas is unfortunately now a garbage airline. P1 the same garbage product. Qantas emailed me to say because I have reached the 2160 SC threshold they will extend my P1 for another year. They neednt have bothered. After experiencing Singapore airlines I will not bother with an expensive budget airline such as qantas. Its a shame to see such an iconic airline go down the tubes as it has. I dont have to listen to that idiotic welcome to country BS as well which is a relief

Are there any objective elements that differentiate your experience as a (presumably) Solitaire PPS vs Platinum One?

I have both those statuses and fairly regularly get op-ups on SQ. I've only once gotten a free upgrade on QF.
Thanks, that’s good to know. I’ve received a fair few op ups J to F with P1.

How about award seats for Solitaire PPS? I find opening seats to Europe on QF F or J almost impossible even as a P1.

What is the point of this post?
Well, while that's a fair vent to be sure, it's not without some merit imo. While I would not use quite that phrasing myself, I think many of us have varying opinions on the value of P1, and QFi offerings in general vs some of the other premium product out there (eg: SQ, QR etc).

While QF has a bit of an arrogant position and is unlikely to be swayed, you'd hope QF would see these kinds of comments, or more importantly the drop in revenue/patronage from numbers of high value customers and take a hint.

but we've seen in the past "they" don't really seem to worry too much, and there's probably someone else to take Andy's place (and with the extensions, they'd probably not be too worried in the short term).

IMO it's up to each of us to value our travel experiences, expectations and requirements and make our own decisions (where one can and not governed by corporate travel policies and so on) regarding where we put our travel dollar ... and other international options are showing far more promise in many respects imo.

Having written that, I'd just say I recently spent two weeks flying UA in J and I found myself thinking "gee, I'd take that QF rubbish breakfast offering on QF8 or 22 right about now"... so the grass isn't always greener (but I'm under no illusions that UA comes close to the likes of SQ :) ).

I don't think QF will do a lot to up the ante in the current environment, but you never know I guess. In the meantime the choice is ours. I'd say that having requalified a few months back, my next domestic flights are with VA....

Unusual antithesis of the P1 experience on QF24 BKK to MEL today. Mundane boarding into the J cabin, got settled, offered glass of bubbly, chose dinner options, filled in breakfast menu...and then things went awry. Neils plant based frippery - carrot soup - was lukewarm and watery, ho hum, thought beef massaman curry would be better. Sadly inedible - fatty chunks of beef in a slick of oily sauce - and basically stone cold. Soooo, given that it was just horrible so I said to my crew member it really wasn't edible and sent it back. She was fine and asked if I wanted to try something else - Qantas menus are like playing Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun but, nevertheless, went for the roast chicken - reasoning that it was hard to destroy that. It arrived swimming in (I hope) olive oil, warm exterior, stone cold inside, accompanied by leather like sweet potato chips and beans that had the tensile strength of carbon fibre. So I sent that back too and politely said that it too wasn't really edible, that I didn't want anything else but that I'd appreciate my feedback on the quality of food being passed onto the QF catering division. All pretty standard stuff, no one seemed upset, crew member said she was sorry I hadn't liked the food and that she would indeed pass on my comments.

Then a bit later heard the CSM doing the P1 greeting and thanking a couple of PAX sitting behind me for their loyalty etc, usual sort of stuff, didn't get to me speaking to me but so what, I didn't think anything of it. Anyhow.... latter on I bumped into him and said hello (literally just hello), he let out an enormous huff, spat out the words that he would fill out the forms about my food complaint Mr Jcwhizz, turned on his heel and stalked off 🤣. Literally the only time I had met or spoken to him on the flight but clearly he was super offended that I had had the temerity to complain about the food. Like a scene from Fawlty Towers. Then they misplaced my breakfast menu but offered me a bit of everything instead (to be fair the breakfast was fine), we reached top of descent and I heard the CSM again loudly thanking his seemingly more compliant P1 PAX behind me for their loyalty, then he marched past me head in the air, and ignored me at the door on deplaning. I had to laugh. Maybe instead of simply ignoring complaints Qantas have decided to up the ante and enter a new era of actively dealing with dissent via a "silent tantrum" approach. 🤔

Apologising because you didn't like the food. I think there is a big difference between not liking food and a failure to prepare it properly. Really poor effort there by the crew.

been observing this for a few years now, I suppose it's reflective of their corporate culture. Cue the proverbial saying about fish heads...

Actually now I’m home and thinking about it, I might waste some time and write to QF about this one - I usually don’t bother but paying 10K for the privilege of being treated like excrement because I wouldn’t eat excrement so to speak in the unforgiving light of the Melbourne winter sun seems a bit rich….

Yeah if it had actually been heated up properly it would be a start - that’s not Neil’s fault….

I would send a note to the VIP team.

Not sure how beneficial it’ll be (well tbh not sure how beneficial any complaint to QF really is). I have gone to the VIP team about a similar issue before (catering in dom J was not loaded so served some paltry cheese and crackers from y) and received a lacklustre response stating they were ‘sorry the flight didn’t live up to my expectations’ and they would pass my ‘feedback’ onto the relevant area.

I appreciate this isn’t really the remit of the VIP team, however did expect a slightly better response than received.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

So this year, without much additonal effort, will be my highest earning year of just over 2K SCs. From what I read on this thread, I wont be making any effort to aim for P1.
Basically IMO it gets you the VIP team to fix issues that you rather would not have happened in the first place and a greatly enhanced ability to get reward seats on popular flights….everything other benefit over WP that should happen often doesn’t.

If your planned travel for the whole year is an all time high and in the low 2000s, that's a long way away from 3600.
Not worth it in any case.
Exactly. WP is a nice level for me to hover at. In fact I should consider the excess over WP being used to diversify to others, even StarAlliance.

I posted this in the Qantas Wine thread but I wanted to ask whether there was any information on the P1 $100 Qantas Wine voucher that's listed on the website?

1 phone 3 transfers 50 minutes and no outcome. Seems like no one knows anything about it. I don't mind it if it was wrong but please remove it from your website and have it removed from the P1 welcome email.

Contact the VIP team.
A few years ago, it was a welcome gift instead of a voucher - looks like it has changed for P1s.
