The sooner authorities start throwing the book at these idiots the better! An aircraft is not the place to be paralytic and crew and other pax deserve some respect. I personally hope he does cop a jail term... But not 2 years.

I see a sign at my medical centre saying there is zero tolerance towards abuse of doctors and staff by patients. Onboard airplanes too, there should be zero tolerance. The captain must have thought hard before diverting the flight to CNS.

I wish people would stop getting drunk and making coughs of themselves on planes. Eventually they are going to ban booze on planes and it's the only thing that keeps me sane on some flights!

I read that he broke numerous pairs of plastic cuffs? Cable ties or duct tape would have done a better job by the sounds of it. Both I carry on board.

Just cannot help but think his condition maybe not be totally alcohol induced but rather substance induced as well.

I have said a million times that drugs are the scourge of Australian society - this may well be another example.

The plastic cuffs are cable ties, which are very easy to escape with the correct technique. Learnt that on a buck's night.

Well obviously someone isn't applying them correctly - learnt that at a B&M night ;)

Well it was an interesting night but I've seen them escaped after someone trained to apply the correctly, applied them. I would have thought the AFP officers on board might have had half a clue. ;)

Plastic cuffs are an interesting choice for detaining someone because, if applied correctly, they are very effective - however if you fit them upside down/ the wrong way round they don't click properly and become easy to remove with a little wriggling... If they were applied incorrectly I would've thought that after the third or fourth pair the AFP would've caught onto the idea they were doing something wrong . Maybe the pax in question is an escapologist?

Long story.

I feel sorry for him. A lot more to the story than what has been published. Possible personality issues.

Not sure how much I can say but quite happy to relate my experience in person.

It is also possible to break cuffs with plain strength - I've had NSW Correctives officers tell me about prisoners they've seen who have broken standard prison-issue metal handcuffs.

That's what I was talking about. I've seen the ratchet on cable ties broken with force and technique.

I won't easily forget the thud I heard when the person was taken to the floor the first time.

Sounds like you were on the flight. Some cairns old timer on Facebook is trying to tell us it was an A380.

We're also trying to work out what other large aircraft were in Cairns. Any eye witness accounts?

It may be a mental health issue and not related to illegal drugs at all.

Some illegal drugs are a major a scourge on society, but not all.

I look forward to having that discussion with you one day, JohnK.
