Qantas No More Premium Headsets in Y

Suspect also that the staff just don't collect them from Y pax, and the cleaners just bag them.

How many have you got in the cupboard at home. If you tell me you have none,
A-I don't believe you
B-How many pairs do you want??
Mrs Dmac6345 hates the things sitting up in the cupboard at home !! ;)

I have none anywhere at home. I have not taken the headsets from QF flights (or any others that I can recall).

I don't understand why anyone would steal the Qantas NC headphones. They're not particularly good quality, and how many people have a device or stereo at home that uses those three-pronged plugs??

They do the job alright, but finding a three-prong plug to either a twin or single prong (e.g. latter suitable for most compact electronic devices) is near impossible.

Not sure about the Qantas ones, but do they have an independent battery or they draw power from one of the jacks? If the latter, then you're hosed as noise cancelling headsets need to be powered.

I can see people nicking the NC headphones only 'cos they can cost upwards of $50 and it doesn't matter if they are not the best, if they cost that much people will nick them if they know it's "free". Problem is sometimes those headphones are rigged to only be usable on the aircraft, and then there are other practical issues, too.

In any case, this is an unpublished benefit. I'd say the reason given by the FA to the OP is probably accurate in what does happen but inaccurate (and inappropriate) as the ruling reason why they can't offer him a headset. Simply J and F are entitled to it and Y and Y+ only by discretion. Whilst the OP has a full right to ask, and in many cases has received (perhaps even proactively), there is certainly no automatic entitlement.

I received a pair when recently flying SIN-BNE in Y; helped a bit when sleeping on the overnight flight.

The third prong is the power.

has anyone else experienced this of late?

END of Whinge :D

Yes, QF5 SYD-SIN in April in Y. No CSS/CSM greeting. No J headsets. Only special attention was from FAs after takeoff to check I was dry, as I'd had to hold a spare blanket up to the ceiling above me to stop the air con condensation from saturating me. After ensuring I was dry, that was it.
3 flights since; recognised the CSM on boarding, and the fam was moved from Y into Y+ before takeoff. Subsequent 2 Y flights were upgraded on points to J.

this was my initial reaction also...

i would think most members of Australian Frequent Flyer have their own quality noise canceling set they take with them on all long haul travels in economy class. If you don't then you should.

I actually considered getting some but so far have not needed to as I have always gotten them... if the OP is correct I might have to go and buy some soon.

While I am happy for you and other WP/WP1 who get 'freebies' from QF.. I have been a WP for over 5 years and WP1 for about 1 year.. never ever have I been offered J headset/amenties while traveling in Y/Y+ no in flight 'upgrades'.. only a handful Op-Ups.... and believe me I have done my fair share of Y travel as well.

Kind of feeling left out now!!:(

But then again is it the end of the world.. ?? nah!

Coming back to the headsets.. AA gives out Bose headsets in J and they take it back before landing.. Infact they keep an inventory list of who they give out the Bose NC headsets to..
