Hi,

Apologies in advance if this has been asked in the recent past and my searching skills are not up to scratch.

I usually fly VA and have lounge access. I’m flying QF in a few weeks SYD-CBR return. I have no QF status so ordinarily won’t have lounge access. Is there a way (outside purposely applying for a CC that has lounge passes) I might be able to use the lounge facilities? I would like to avoid waiting for my flights in the terminal now I’ve got use to lounge access. Any thoughts appreciated.

Perhaps I am being unkind, but sayings such as "suck it up" and "you made your choices" come to mind.

Following in codash's footsteps, but less so unkind, but rather more jaded, I now await my flights in the terminal because I am so unbelievably sick of lounges.....

You are able to purchase QP membership if you are really interested in utilising the lounge.

Is it worth it financially? For a once off flight, probably not.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Thought that might have been the case. I agree, it’s only 2 flights and purchasing a membership at this stage might be premature.

Sure there are ways. Upgrade to business (probably terrible value for this sector). Get QC. See if someone in the lounge meetup wikis can guest you in.

Thus except for the last option, if you really feel strongly about avoiding waiting in the terminal you'll have to pony up some of the folding stuff (or points). There are worse places to wait than the terminals Qantas use at SYD and CBR.

If you're used to VA lounges, then you aren't used to QF lounges, in which case having to wait in the QF terminal means - you're not missing out on anything.

But being more kind - Its a short flight, SYD QF terminal is not the worst place to have to wait for a flight. Best to check the lounge forum and see if anyone will be there at a similar time.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

There's a chance Qantas will offer to sell you one-time lounge access via email for $49, if you're not departing at a peak time.

I agree with the advice to post your flight times in the lounge meetups forum. I fly this route regularly - you never know, I might be able to guest you in. If not, I'm sure someone else could.

If travelling the same day an Admirals Club One Day Pass ($US59 from American Airlines) will get you access to QC in Sydney and Canberra.

The CBR QP is nothing to crow about, CBR airport is newly developed, so its not that bad sitting in the general population side.
Now, if you were flying subclass J and got the business lounge entry, thats different, a bit high standard most of the time.
The QP (Qantas Club) is a run of the mill, its like a hotel lounge, great if you already have QP, but its a very expensive way to get "free" food.
If you were going to fly QF regularly, you could join here as an AFF Gold member, and thus get discounted entry to the QP, but not to the QF J lounge, in a lot of Aust airports, the 2 are different, in the smaller ones, eg ADL, they are one and the same.
I paid Aud$855 or so about 3 years ago (outside of AFF), that includes the joining fee. With AFF Gold, you pay a discounted rate for both the joining fee and annual membership fee for the QP.
I have used the QP in CBR before, can't complain, but like I said, the whole airport is newly developed.
The QP is on the car u turn side, ie, the other side of the terminal, so no runway views, if thats your thing for one visit to the QP.

I think you should monitor the lounge meets thread - and post your flights there also.....o_O

These passes have unfortunately been discontinued.

The CBR QP is nothing to crow about

The Qantas Club in Canberra is probably my favourite domestic QP. It's pretty good IMHO.

Actually IMO the QP at CBR is much better than MEL or SYD and not what I would call 'run of the mill'. It's usually quite quiet and the atmosphere is good.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it only the 30-day pass being discontinued?

Hmm, runway views are a plus in my pov when it comes to lounges.
But to each their own.
Eg, some like the Barista made coffee in the QP/QF J lounge, but for me, I will just like the DIY option.
Must try the Barista made coffee either Australia Day or Adelaide Cup day long weekend, in ADL.

Sorry, yes you're quite right. I got them mixed up.

Those one-day passes are still available, but can only be used in Admirals Club lounges anyway (not Qantas lounges) as far as I'm aware.
