Have to do a Melbourne - Hobart return flight and for the first time had to do Qantas as Virgin unavailable.
Having not done a 717 flight am seeking some urgent advice on seats etc. My wife, our 2 yr old, my 92yr old grandmother and myself are making the trip so stressful enough so wanting to minimise any more.

Does row 1 have a bulk head?

Can young children and disabled sit in row 1?

Any suggestions on best row?

Do you need status to select rows 1 or 2?

What is business link on the 717?

Really appreciate any help on the above as need to call tomorrow.

Cheers

Yes it's bulkhead, I don't recall a window exit so can't see why kids wouldn't be allowed in that row, you will probably need status to select that row though.

I have sat in row 1 on a flight sold as all economy... and it was nice. Not experienced actual business yet unfortunately :(

See here for a seat map: Seat Maps for the Boeing 717-200 | Qantas

Here for information/a photo or two: Introducing the new QantasLink B717 | Qantas

Business class is rows 1-3 on the 2 class 717 & economy with the first row of economy being 4 which doesn't have any significant leg room. The config in Y is 2 seats on the left A&C then 3 on the right DEF.

We recently travelled in 717s MEL-HBA-MEL in J. Row 1 has bulkheads, not exit rows, so no issues about being able to operate doors in an emergency. There is a photo on the QANTAS Source that shows the D/F seats (QANTAS Boeing 717-200 12J 98Y Seat Map). We found no real difference between 737 and 717 as far as J concerned, except that crew younger and food better on 717 on the most recent trip (August). I tend to go for Row 2 as long legs tend to complain about bulkheads even in J. The Y seating looked similar space-wise in comparison to 737. As Ozbeachbabe says, it is 2-3 config in Y.

717 is a older aircraft, always had good flight on them, only criticism is they seem to have a higher climb rate out of Perth compared to 737

In Perth, you have to catch a bus to board the 717 and they are predomately used on the mining routes

Row 4 is pretty awful in my experience. I tend to sit in the exit row when in Y - it's much better and I haven't noticed any extended time disembarking.
